I recently bought a knock off bov from ebay (40 shipped). Then my friend was selling his real Greddy type-s for 60 with the top screw stripped out. I decided to buy his and use the hat from the knock off to make the real greddy work again. I decided to take pics of each and show people what makes them different.

I tested the use of the Knock off on my car at 15psi at the softest spring setting. At the softest spring setting I was getting compressor surge at 15psi, indicated by the fluttering noise emitted from the bov. After a few test runs of this I removed this bov and swapped the hat from the unstripped bov(knock off) onto the top of the real type-s.

Sorry for the crappy pics. Crappy Digi cams take crappy pics.
This is a picture of the Fake Greddy and the way the hat is sealed.

It uses this rubber skirt type thing that gets sealed buy a rubber O-Ring on the top of that hat shown here

This is the real Greddy

The Material that seals the hat is made of a much higher quality and appears to be much stronger.

The hat of the Real Type-S. No rubber O-Ring because it doesnt need one.

I cant accurately comment on the spring rates of each bov but to me they felt as if they had te same resistance.

Real Greddy

There are also color differences that may indicate that the spring retainers are made out of different materials or it could be that the real greddy's color has changed due to age.

These are merely pics of the visual differences. It seems that the knock off is pretty decent and would work fine for a while but its long term durability is questionable. The knock off would work great for higher boost levels. I however will be sticking with the Real Greddy.

Nice write-up, I was thinking about buying the knock-off just for the lid myself as my real Greddy has also stripped. I have decided against that though as a friend of mine offered me his old UICP that is HKS-flanged, I'm done with Greddy crap, knock-off or not.

Wow, that's pretty interesting to see the guts side-by-side.

I think I'll stick with my SSQV for now.

This was a good dissection of both BOV's.
Both are made with different materials and both carry different durrability and reliability. Obviously everyone trusts greddy because of the performance and craftsmanship of their products. They make some good stuff that usually installs with ease and has no problems.
I wouldnt want to put anything that was considered a "knock-off" part on my car. Unless it was something that didnt have to do with drivability.

nice, this should be posted in the tech articles or something. But the pics are soooooooo crappy. I think its more of a bad photographer than a bad camera. jk. Please try to get some usuable pictures though.

IVe considered trying to upgrade from my 1g to another blow-off valve now that im blowthrough and the 1g leaks at idle. Ive considered the knock-off bovs on ebay. Anyone willing to sell their real SSQV?? LOL.

I've been kicking this around myself, I'm glad someone has some first hand experience with it. I'm running about 18psi, I wonder if it would be as good as the 1G I'm running now. Did it have a good sound, or was it too loud?

Now if people would quit purchasing knock off parts altogether. These parts have done nothing but hurt the import community.

My Digital Camera has a auto-focus on it but its only a $100 digital cam.It has 3 settings for the focus 0-3 feet, 3-10ft, and 10-xxxft. I wish I could take it back. The Bov is already installed so I wont be getting better pics. Basically the main differences are fairly easy to see.
