Planning on getting a Big 16G soon and trying to compile a list of supporting things I need.
Fuel pump
Larger injectors 550CC-650CC
Better flowing exhaust 2 1/2" DP into 3" in N1 muffler Will keeping a high flow cat reduce boost creep?
Boost controller
Boost guage
Oil pressure guage stock one doesnt work in my car :coy:
2G install kit.

I plan on keeping my SMIC for now and run EXTREMELY low boost OR just get all these parts in my room and buy a FMIC and install all at once.

WITH THE ABOVE LIST,ASSUMING ITS COMPLETE, DO I NEED A SAFC?

I dont completely understand SAFC, I understand the function but say I have a local shop tune it for me, do I need to buy a SAFC?

SORRY for the dumbass Q's please dont flame, I have been contemplating whether to ask or not but I NEED TO KNOW. Thanks for ANY help you can offer. :dsm: :talon: :laser:

Yes, if you do not have a 550 or 650 chip in your ecu (assuming you have eprom) you will need an AFC. This will be able to better control your fuel trims and be able to give you a proper tune. As for the fuel pump, if you go with a 255 don't forget you are going to need an AFPR. :thumb:

The install kit should come with the gaskets you need so it looks like you have a pretty good setup going except for the things I have mentioned.

If your on a budget, and want to keep the smic, definetly either make or get some hard pipes for it.

Id also consider, water injection if you want to keep the smic.

x2 on what JDNSBR said.

Before it's worth swapping out the stock turbo you should atleast have a upgraded BOV, air filter, exhaust, bigger FP + injectors. SMIC is ok, water injection needed if your running over 17-18ish psi on a turbo the size of a 16G.

Keeping a cat should help reduce creep, worse case put your stock air box on, I couldn't boost over 15 psi with it and a FRAM air filter. LOL

Look into getting a wideband 02 sensor and tuning the car your self with the AFC. Nicer if you can log the run into dsmlink.

Do I need a Wideband 02 to tune with a AFC.

Forgot to list of course a BOV.

Also the DP I have been looking at are cat eliminating. Should I look for a different one or is it ok? How big of a problem would not having a cat cause.

Thanks for everyones help!

what if I dont have an Eprom? does that cause any problems?

1. no. a wideband o2 sensor is not needed, but a logger of sorts is MANDATORY for tuning with a safc2. you will want to read timing, o2 volts and rpm. look into a palm m505 with pocketlogger.com setup. of course, if a shop is going to dyno tune it, a logger isnt needed, but you still need the safc so they can modify the fuel curve.

2. a cat eliminating downpipe wont cause any issues as far as driveability, youre rear o2 sensor(the useless one that just tells the ecu the cat is working) might throw a code. and if you need to smog the car, you obviously will need a cat, and you can just swap the old dp/cat back in. going catless will give you faster spool and a deeper throatier exhaust, but may cause creep if your turbo isnt properly ported(get the wg/exhaust housing ported with a 34mm flapper, and a tubular o2 housing to boot).

3. a eprom is only needed if youre going to use a chip or dsmlink to tune the car.

Well you have a 96, so its not a matter of "what if" you dont have an eprom.

You dont. Unless some modded the car before you, and put one in.

You'll need to locate an EPROM, most 95's have them. But it wont be needed if you decide to go with an SAFC and a datalogger.

Well I added it all up and got about 12 total items I need.

I ordered a Downpipe, Muffler, and boost and oil pressure guages yesterday! Plan on getting 3" piping done at a local exhaust shop.

Keep in mind I am a totally stock GS-T minus the K&N filter. So these are EXCITING!

Will I need an Eprom if I go with the Pocketlogger?

no, pocket loggers plug into te OBDII port under the steering column and just read the scensors thru the ecu. pocket loggers aremonitoring devices only, not tuning devices.
