im going to check out this 1g gs 2.0 this weekend (93) and was wondering i should do and/or look at/do im a little skeptical because he told me it has 65k original miles and hes asking 2200 and he told me it has New Brakes New Tires AC cranks New Struts Newly Tuned up and its Never been hit it sounds to good to be ture but then again you never know so i was wondering if i could have any tips when looking at it to make sure whats really going on with it and what i should look at thank you all

Check for a GST or a GSX for sale.

I don't understand why so many people post this question. You check for what you would on any other car, they all function with the same basic mechanics in mind, the car isn't a spaceship with a nuclear reactor inside, it's a basic 4 cylinder motor, check on the condition of all the components, engine, suspension and etc.

gst nd gsx is what i really want but where i live any 1g is a rare to come by trust me ive been looking and plus theirs not much within the price range of my budget..... but let me ask this question in a different way some cars have different common issues and i was wondering what the eclipses are like i noticed there ecus have a tendency to have a leaking caps and the iac valve/sensor also go commonly and so on i was wondering if there's anymore thank you all again

Our ISCs aren't more prone to failure than other cars, as far as some may think. Hondas are far more notorious for that. These cars are more known for rust (2Gs over 1Gs) than anything. There is no one common problem, the cars are a problem, your mileage will vary, you may blow out alternators on a monthly basis and some other guy may ruin starters. Your best bet is to go looking for all problems rather than a short specific list, cause that usually ends in people overlooking other problems because the car doesn't seem to have the "common" problems.

I am sure the 1G NT guys will give you a million different things to look at based on their experience.

thats true and thank you im just skeptical because 2200 for a 1g with 65k miles but maybe i am just over thinking it but thanks again

I wouldnt waste my time on it. GST or GSX. If you cant find one around you, look further.

i dont have the option to look further if i did then trust me i wouldnt wast my time i would undoubtedly get the gsx/tsi

If it has any rust, it isn't worth any more than $1000. Look at the rear fender arch in front of the wheels. If there is one single bubble or pinhole of rust, it isn't worth more than $1000, considering that everything else is flawless. It needs timing belt reciepts and everything. I bought a 94 GS for $2000, but only because it was the exact same color as my 93 GS which had just been totaled. It was the exact same price as the amount my insurance had given me, it had 1/2 as many miles as my old car, it had 0 rust, and had a flawless coat of factory clear coat. It was literally owned by an old man, too. So, I willingly paid more than I knew it was worth.

Slightly rough, but running, 2.0 NT 1Gs are $700-900 cars. It's still a 4G63!

so your saying i really shouldn't look at it as a lil under priced because of the 65k miles and yeah the timing belt is what i want to know before anything because most manufacturers say to change at interval of 60k with that said how much does it cost to replace the timing belt?..................... and the only reason im considering a n/t is because its a 4g63 and i could always install a turbo :thumb:

A GS will have the 4g63, a GST or GSX will have the 4g63T engine. The N/T engines have no oil squirters and weaker pistons in them. Just a thought if you plan to turbo the car. The engine won't like much boost... A timing belt job will cost around 5-700 bucks to have done. Or go on VFAQ and buy the parts yourself and save hunreds of dollars. But 2200 for a non turbo 1g seems pretty high.

If you are buying this car with the intention of turboing it, then think again. You will just spend more money for less power in the long run. The 4G63 and the 4G63T were intended for different purposes, and the 4G63 n/t will require forged pistons and stronger rods at the least, if you want to run some worthwhile boost. Just wait for a clean 1g GSX/GST/TSi, that would be the best bang for your buck.

But then again its your decision and you can do whatever you please. Thats just my 2 cents.

My local Mitsu dealer will throw new OEM belts on it for $300, but that doesn't include a water pump, which you should replace. $2200 is insane for a 93 GS. My $2000 car was purchased from a Jaguar dealership. It had a $1000 detail job, the way I look at it. The previous owner said they only gave him $1000 for the trade. That's exactly what I'd figured. BTW, his brand-new Jag that he traded the Eclipse in on was already broken! Go figure.

You really need to get jiggy with the craigslist. Check every day for Talon, Eclipse, Laser, and DSM. And be patient. For $2200, that GS would have to be 100% leak-free, 100% rust-free, run perfectly, have a perfect interior, a perfect exterior, brand-new tires, nice wheels, an awesome system with amps and subs, and a receipt from a Mitsubishi dealer for all service and a new timing belt.

I wish all DSM's came like that.
