What to look out for with TSI's?

Hey guys, im a wayyy newbie to the DSM world. I drove one and im hooked and i'm soon to have one in my driveway. Can you guys tell me what to look for in a used TSI? I am only looking for the AWD Turbo talons...What are a lot of problems that occur with lets say the 90-94 dsm compared to the problems of the 95+. Fill me in on the info about these cars. They are AWESOME

2g trannies are good but engines face crankwalk (sometimes) 1g trannies are shit but engines are strong. Just check what you would check with any other car, if it is running good no leaks (air or oil) of any sort. And check if it has been in an accident or not. They are pretty tough cars it is just we DSMers have a heavy foot and thats what breaks things .

Check if it has have gotten all their recalls as well, that one is important.

some 1g talons have recalls on the transfercase. a plug un screws and causes tranny to leak some fluid. then after it will heat up and lock if you would like a link to more info just leave a message saying so.

-Timing belt done every 50k or so

-Get a compression test done

Those two things are major, aside from that make sure brakes are good, cv joints don't click when you turn, etc. An hour with a mechanic for $75 could save you hundreds or thousands in the long haul

well i guess i'm a step ahead because my father is a full time mechanic for foreign and domestic cars, so that puts me a step ahead, I went looking today at some talons and eclipses, damn i cannot believe how hard it is to find a decent TSi or GSX

I was talking with you on yfzcentral.com. yes it is very hard to find a decent dsm, so many are just beat to hell.

i have a decent tsi if you come to canada.. i painted it and dropped a jdm motor with many mods.. im selling it for 7000 canadian WITh all the mods and two sets of NEW rims.. pm me if you really want to work something out and ill send you some pics, also it has a built tranny which cost almost more then the initial cost of the car
