hey guys I have came accross a 95 gsx with 660's and a afc.... It has no compression on 2 cylinders(1,2). Im not really worried about not having compression, I have used a MLS head gasket before and did not work.. tourqued the head that time to 80 lbs.

Im going to be using APR head bolts for this project, will a graphite hg work good enough to hold the psi im shooting for???

what do you guys recomend?

but I have tried using one of those gaskets before set at 80 lbs with aprs and did not seal.

Are you talking about a OEM composite? You need to torque in steps (I generally do 30 ft/lb, then 60, then 85) using ARP moly lube following the star direction as outlined in the FSM (inward out). IF you did that, I would venture to see either your head or block surface was not flat enough to seal correctly. Did you have the head milled and the block decked when you did this swap? or did you just pull the old HG out and swap in the new stuff, because that's not a good idea.

sorry, im a new member and cant create my own thread yet, im about to get a 1992 plymouth laser, the seller says it has a blown head gasket, and we'll just say thats all thats wrong with it. it's bored 20 over, do i have to get a different head gasket? or will stock work? should i get oem? (16g turbo) or something better? ebay has 4g63t kits for about 40$ shipped. eBay Motors: 89-92 1.6 & 2.0 Eagle 4G61, 4G63, 4G63T Head Gasket Set (item 280209324260 end time Mar-25-08 09:38:30 PDT) is the graphite head gasket there a no no? should i get the head checked?

I need to buy a head gasket. I know cometic head gaskets are the best kind to get. What are MLS gaskets? Are they better? I've been looking on Ebay, there are tons there. Is there a particular brand of head gasket to get?

I've heard good things about the felpro's. They hold real nice but too nice sometimes. Depends on your application basically. There all pretty good. It all just comes down to how much your going to spend and how much power you plan on pushing.

The Stock OEM is what I would use for your power level. Stay away from the fail-pro for head gaskets.

I assume he was referring to the new Fel-Pro MLS gasket which has shown to be a pimp. It is the headgasket if you plan on making high hp. For 300hp you should be fine with a Mitsu MLS or a Cometic.

Before I bought mine I did a lot of reading on these and the best Ive heard and read is the mitsu 4 layer.Even the cometics are worse than the stock.

Buy an OEM composite, its will handle that kind of power no problem. Add some ARP's if your planning on running over 20psi & you should be set. Stock composite is nice, it adds a safety factor & with ARP's can handle way more boost then you'll need to make 300 hp. I've ran mine to 30psi, no problems & I'm sure there are guys out there that have pushed them more. If both surfaces are machined to the correct RA, don't even think about running a MLS headgasket, your just asking to push coolent.

Fail-pro.head gasket are junk. I used one on the gst I had,and boost chewed through it. The mitsu cosmetic gasket has a steel like rings that wrap around the top of the cylinder walls to prevent any boost from chewing. The mls head gasket are the best! They are bound to take a beating up to 35 psi. The trick is getting it to seal good. Deck your head and a spray some copper on the gasket and you should be good to go. Also, some Apr studs should really go along with that.

felpro are not junk, its all in about doing the proper head repair. When you change your headgasket, get your head checked and milled, clean the surfaces, torque everything down, start the car and let it warm up, check for leaks, drive it about 20 minutes, then go and recheck your torques.

I hate to agrue with the way you say to do it but I have heard from many people about the fel pro gaskets except their mls gasket which is like 200.00 other than that I also say use the arps...

i think its matter of your personal choice since your not making any big power
but i personally use cometic HG for all my cars

I don't plan for a lot of power. Around 300+. Are the Ebay cometic gaskets good to buy?

for the type of horsepower i would do a stock oem
but if you are fully build i would go metal HG

I have seen several Fail-pro failures on head swaps from bent valves. I have seen OEM composites w/ARP's do over 400+ hp. Just don't cheat this one.
BTW, I only use fel-pro exhaust manifold gaskets, they have the largest port openings.

My bottom end is fully built. I have .020 over pistons which are now 85.5. Which was leading me towards the cometic. Does the MLS accomodate overbore bottom ends?

Ive seen quite a few fail-pros die also. Not just in HG's but every damn seal they make. I would never buy a fail-pro in my life after bad experiences with them. Im running the oem mls HG and running 30psi and 24* timing with no issues on stock 6 bolt head studs.

I'm using the Mitsu 4-layer running some pretty hefty boost and up to 24* timing with stock 6 bolt head studs, no problems, i did loose about 4-6psi across the board from the thickness of the HG but its a damn nice HG
