I got a 99 gst i bought it bone stock so far what ive done to it is put a full catback exhaust with 3" downpipe on it and a punishment fmic and 16g turbo (set @ 10psi)
also an air intake im currently trying to buy an apexi safc, a aem wideband, walbro 255 fuel pump and 650cc injectors.

will this meet my goal of 300whp?
and what psi can i keep my turbo at with the new fuel parts?

well if the time comes ill go for that whats the worst thing that can happen with using an safc to tune anyway?

Aggressive timing due to hiding airflow from the ecu, and constantly changing tune which can lead to possible engine damage.

i cant wait till this is done im gonna be broke as a joke all month hahaha i didnt know boost controllers were 100$ either

Not all boost controllers are 100 dollars. You can get a good working one for 30-40 bucks or just make one for around 15.

The worst that can happen is that said 'tuner' doesn't know what they are doing and destroys your engine. A SAFC is a terrible piggyback. The Talon I recently picked up has one installed and I promise you that it will be removed before I start the car up for the first time.

For the record : The flashable ECU is extremely powerful. It is flexible, fast, and makes the EPROM Ecu look like a crayon compared to colored pencils. Some people like crayons, however, so there's no bashing. Essentially you can look at the difference of the two like this - The EPROM chip in an ECMlink compatible ECU allows for reading and writing over the stock programing. Link simply offers a pretty neat and pleasing GUI with a faster than stock EPROM chip and allows you to directly access the information on the chip in realtime. A Flashable ECU has this ability built into it. With the proper cable (you pay for this) and software (free) you can access and tune to a very nice depth. The Flashable ECU's also have very high resolution maps, etc.

If you want information on this, contact/follow the information of an individual named Ceddy - You can simply google his name with DSM attached to it and come across the right results right off the bat.

I have ran Link in 3 of my vehicles and been very pleased with it. I have also, however, messed with Evoscan in conjunction with our 98-99 Black Box/Flashable ECU's and where does that leave me with my 98? Saving about $500 for a tuning solution that's just as solid. I cannot and will not downtalk either tuning solution as they are both great tuning methods. Link is more user friendly, however.

In short - ditch the SAFC and get an actual tuning solution. Stop lying to your car : It'll return the favor.

I would recommend Link over other methods of tuning. I own AEM EMS and it can quite difficult learning how to tune with it. Link is much easier to use for uses a slider bar. You need all fuel modifications done before trying to tune. It would require twice as much work if don't do it first. Good luck!

The support alone is worth the price of entry for Link. Get Link Lite, spend a few months scouring the forum for information and be on your way.

300whp with room to grow is pretty easy to come by with a little research and a little money invested wisely.

well it looks like i have no tuner anymore as well as anyone to install all the shit i just bought because i was asking him why i just dont have him flash the ecu and he pretty much told me #### off

Sounds like he was a sketchy guy. Look it this way, he was obviously not a tuner, he was a guy that can possibly adjust an safc, big difference. You will be better in the long run without him.

none of the fuel components are in the car right now am im mechanically an idiot so i really have no clue what im goinna do now i got like 1k worth of parts i have no idea how to put in.... and if i take it to a preformance shop to install them it will cost like 2k

So buy link and do it yourself. There are plenty of threads on installation and set up.

Or pickup Evoscan and the cable. :p Don't force feed him, man.

Start simple. Pick one part at a time and doe a search. If you can't find the information on how to properly install it, post a thread with pictures and as much information as you can muster and the community will be more than willing to tell you how to install it, how they installed it, etc. Don't get in a huge, anxious rush. Just take your time and get on it. It's the best way to learn.

Think thats the best option for someone that cant adjust a safc? Pretty sure the ceddymods project was abandoned. No support, steep learning curve, sounds like an eventual part out ad to me.

In all truth? And I'm not trying to be rude - the last thing the OP needs to worry about is a tuning method at this point if they are incapable of installing their parts. Sounds like a destroyed engine either way. As long as we're suggesting tuning methods, we might as well go along with all available and equally powerful options instead of promoting a single option as if it were the end all of tuning solutions. No one has even mentioned a stand-alone yet.

I think OP needs to put down the tuning solution thought for the moment and pick up a haynes/chilton manual and start reading. ;) As long as he's interested, however, we should open his eyes to the many different tuning solutions out there dating back to ECU+ if needed.

im more than overwhelmed right now

Just relax~ It seems like a complicated world but it's really not. Each piece has it's place and each place needs attention. It all fits together and structures out when you take time to just back up and look at it. For now, stop buying parts and start investing time in researching, especially what you've purchased so far.

You got to remember, your talking to the guy who says Jackal is the only tuner for 1g's LOL. If the op really wants to put the time in to learn to flash then maybe thats the right option for him. But who wants to learn stuff haha

Maybe so, but the best time to learn to tune is on a stock or near stock set up. Its a little more forgiving that way.

Haha. I thought it -was- the only option for 1G's :p

I also think the best time to start tuning is when you're as stock as possible as you can grow with the changes. I also believe, however, that you should know your car and how the PCV system functions before you start messing with boost and deadtimes, ya' know?

First pick up a service manual.
Second, slow down and learn by looking through these forums and researching before you jump into putting different parts on.
Lastly, keep up on the maintenance before you pop into wanting to go all fast and furious with your car, otherwise you will blow your engine etc etc etc
GL
There are some really intelligent and helpful people here, be patient.

I didn't read every post and I too love DSMLink but make sure you have a good tuner near you. Yes, you can learn to tune yourself but if it's your DD why risk it? I used to tune my own cars on DSMLink but I do not currently tune my girl. Too much at stake if I screw something up. Lucky for me I have Nate and Ricky very close to me.

If you dont have the money for link or you would like to leave the tuning to someone else with experience with tuning, anothert option would be to get your ecu chipped for your setup. If you have an eprom ecu,you can get ahold of a guy on tuners(ill give you his info if you pm me)and give him all the info for your setup and possibly logs if you have the resources to do so, and he can burn you a custom chip for your setup. If you are new to tuning it would be the safest way to run bigger injectors, maf, and more boost without damaging your car.Although a wideband would be my first purchase if you dont have one already before running anything over stock boost.
I run with a chipped ecu with no link and i am running 349whp and 337tq on a mild tune.Just make sure that if you have a custom chip burned for your setup that you are using a reputable person,or it could be just as dangerous as you trying to tune your car on link with no knowledge of how to run an engine management system. For me it was just an easier and safer way for me to run more power while i got used to my car and learned about tuning on my own.I have a safc just incase i need it,but it has been zeroed out the whole time ive had the car, because my custom chip has been so spot on i havent needed the safc.
