Hi,

Newbie question here. If a GM MAF is installed post IC and pre throttle body, are boost leaks anything of a concern?

Would it them matter if there were a boost leak on the lower IC pipe (aside from the fact that you wont make as much boost)

Thanks in advance!:cool:

From my understanding the gm maf. will allow you to run with slight boost leaks. Its able to balance out and counter act the readings . I do not recommend trying this to fix a boost leak at all!!!!! Take a squirt bottle with some soapy water and have someone else also with you to find boost leaks. Be patient with it, and check everything well. I hope thats not what your trying to do...Fix a boost leak! That would be a really expensive fix....

water = Free!
Adding soap to water = $1.00 estimated
Squirt bottle = $1.00 estimated
Having soapy water to fix boost leak = Priceless!

Good luck'
hope this helps

Not at all.

If the boost leak is before the MAF, the AFR will be fine.

If the boost leak is after the MAF it will run rich.

No i am not trying to work around a boost leak by any means, just trying to get a better understanding of things after reading stuff on this forum for countless hours.

Depending on the size of the boost leak, it's not a huge deal if it's before the MAF.

A large leak means the turbo has to work overtime, which will cause EGTs to get out of control and lead to knock.

I ran with quite a boost leak for awhile before i figured out why my car was knocking prematurely.

I know boost leaks are bad. I have done a boost leak, system is tight, The car is running fine, I am just inquiring, thats all.
