Well I finally got around to inspecting/cleaning my clutch and flywheel for my rebuild, and noticed quite a bit of glazing and some strange wear on the disk springs. It's an ACT 2600 clutch and flywheel, with maybe 8K-10K of daily driving on it (never even launched!)
I know when I burned the clutch (brain-fart while pulling the car up on ramps), but it was still holding fine when I tore the car down. Anyway, I thought I would post up some pics and get some opinions (I REALLY can't afford another clutch right now...but I'm also not gonna pull this thing apart again in a month).
1. The glazing looks pretty bad, but I can't feel any uneveness in the flywheel or pressure plate....just a slight difference in surface texture where it is glazed.
2. Think I should surface the flywheel, or let it ride?
3. The pressure plate seems fine, other than the glazing. All the fingers are in good shape, etc.
4. The wear marks on the tops of all the springs has me perplexed. The paint is worn down to bare metal across the spring tops like it was rubbing on something, but there is no wear visible anywhere else in the clutch path. What caused this?
Any other opinions welcome.
Flywheel:
Pressure plate (looks like my TOB got a bit warm
:
Clutch disk (notice the paint is chipped away on the right end of the lowest spring):
Below are close-ups showing the spring wear mentioned. It's just enough to have removed the paint on the highest points of the spring tops, but not enough to really get into the metal:
