im starting to get fed up with my dsm ..iv tried everything to get the d@mn bottom pulley off and nothing works it wont budge at all i need some suggestions on what to do and i gotta get it off so i can get to the tensioner so i can finish the d@mn head gasket

You are going to have to use a pulley puller. That was the only way I could get mine off.

Don't you already have a thread on this?

A puller should take it right off. If not you are probably doing something wrong. Hitting it or prying on it isnt going to get it off.

i have the puller on it and it wont come off its stuck on there and i have no clue what to do

While your at, go take a break and get some food/drink in you.
Maybe a beer.. Its a car bro, stuff gets difficult/or you make yourself think its difficult and you think your doing it right, but in reality; your not. So take a breather and go back at it again.

But a puller im pretty sure is your way of getting off like the top few said.

You are going to have to crank the hell out of it.

Smacking it with a hammer a bit make help. Crank the puller down tight so it is trying to pull the pulley off, then smack the pulley a few times with a big hammer. See what that will do. I've had to do it that way as well.

You do have the big center bolt backed off when you are trying to pull it right?

the bolt is off and iv hit it with a hammer iv tried everything and its still on there i know a head gasket usually takes a day to do but its been 4 since i started

not sure what pully your trying to get off but on my buddys LT1 to get the crank pully off we had to head it with a torch then use the puller and hit it with a hammer

the bottom pulley so i can get the plastic timing cover off so i can get to the tensioner and iv heated it up with a torch and still didnt work

get some aerokroil or pb blaster and spray a bunch on there and let it sit for a while....it will come right off, pb blaster never lets you down! :thumb:

Use the pulley and a hammer at the same time.

Get the pulley on it and applying pressure. Then hit it with a big hammer. If there is rust or crap frozen in there and holding it from breaking lose then this might work. I've had to do it before. Just do it at the same time.

And leave the bolt like half way in. I don't know what you are putting the rod on the puller against if the bolt isn't there.

you should never use heat on the balancer. All you will do is screw the crank up, destroy the gasket/seals, ruin the plastic cover, and weaken the bond between the hub and band on the balancer. Put the bolt back in but leave it about a 1/4 inch off the hub. Spray the area around the crank snout with wd40 or pb blaster and let it sit over night. then put your puller back on and tighten it down then tap it with a hammer. it will come off. Do not beat the crap out of it or you will damage the balancer and the crank snout unless you have mushroom the crank snout already and that is the reason it's not coming off.

ok so leave the bolt 1/4" off the hub and spray it with pb blaster and let it sit then try to use the puller tommorow

alright so the pulley still wouldn't come off with the puller but i did get the plastic timing cover off so now i can get to the tensioner. should hopefully get the head off today and everything back together by monday

how did you get the lower timing cover off with out getting the bottom pulley off? i was gonna suggest putin a small amount of fire to it. ive had a pulley be super stuborn like that to befor. gettin it hot and letting it cool a couple times does wonders. hot-cold-hot-cold that thing should come off. just dont get to greedy with that tourch you know

Did you make sure that the engine was lowerd down far enough so that the top edge of the pulley is not hitting the frame as your trying to pull it off.

yea i made sure it was down low enough and i just kinda pulled on the plastic cover and it just poped off LOL i guess the guy who did it before me didnt have it on right so now the heads off and i got everything so far just waiting on my timing belt to get in then it will be back together
