Yup, getting a 95/96 Eagle Talon TSi for free. Not exactly sure on the year. I'm not sure if it runs good or not, but from what the guy told me, it will only need a new transmission probably. No idea the condition of the exterior, interior, or anything. I don't even know what color it is, but the guy said it's really fast and turboed, so I'm assuming it's the TSi.

Didn't your parents ever tell you that nothings free in life?
You're right. It's going to cost me like $50. I have to give the guy gas money to go get it for me, since it's in a different state, LOL.

Well if nothing else, you can at least part it out.

You sure this is legal? LOL. Make sure you have the title (and that the VIN matches the car in question ;) )

Good find, though. I wish someone would give me a "free" parts car

Yup, it's his step-sons car, but they can't find him. He is running from the cops or something LOL and him and the kids mom already signed the title over to me. What does the stock 95/96 TSi run hp wise, how much?

Does anyone else smell a rat. In another state? Running form the cops? These shoul raise a red flag for you don't want to be on the end of receiving stolen property. I'm familiar with all kinds of scams including dealers who received and sold stolen property that then held the most recent buyer to blame in a court of law several years later. Don't fall off the turnip wagon without having done your homework first. I also take difficulty with someone towing a car for $50 in gas across a state line???

Maybe it's my suspecious nature to lift an eyebrow at this opportunity.

Cheers,
GTM

You have good points. But, the person whose step-son's car it is, owns a dealership in our town and he's a good family friend and my mom just bought a Jeep Cherokee from him, so I'm not really worried about any of that. The kid was at college in like Maryland or something and I'm from Northeastern PA, and the kid disappeared and the apartment complex he was staying at, where he left the car, said that the car needed to be moved now, so he offered to go to Maryland, get the car and deliver it to my house and all I had to pay him was gas money. Cause he said he was just going to take it to the junkyard or part it out or something and I said I'd take it.

Wow, I thought I got a good deal when I got my 1g for $500.

Remember that the free cars are usually the ones that cost the most to make reliable.

But hey, it is free so if it really sucks you can part it out and make a little cash. If it is a 95 turbo and you decide to part it out I got dibs on the ECU ;)

Okay, that's sounding legit enough though in the long run you could be cursing the whole world. One of my favorite sayings is "awfully nice cars just hard to get use to". This is in part because they are driven hard when they are put in the hands of irresponsible owners who can't/won't maintain them. Figure out what the car is worth, invest 1/2 of that and then take stock of what you have. Swapping out a good used tranny is not an impossible task, you might want to take a good look at the clutch while it's apart. It's entirely possible the tranny is not the problem so get it running and then do your own diagnosis. Ask good well thought out questions so you can get your reputation back into the green.

Shop wisely for parts, don't get into mods until you know the car if that's your bent. Do not loose sight of your goal, you want transportation and reliability first.

So when do you take delivery?

Cheers,
GTM

holy WTF awesome find LOL, good luck man and i hope the kid dont come back all pissed off running from the cops wouldnt be someone most would think of doing that too. I would think it through straight first never know it may whind up having more problems then you like, check the recalls just a reminder if you do get it running right. good luck and good hunting.:thumb:

It would be tempting to take the car, And to be honest I also would most likly take it.... BUT, When that kid gets the ''wind'' of what happened, I'm sure he WILL be out for blood. It woulden't really matter how far you lived! Just don't have them tell their ''bad'' ''outlaw'' ''cop running'' son your name or information.

I'll #### dat bi*** up if come messin wit me, ya heard? Haha, just kidding.

But, the problem with the tranny is something like, he completely blew out 2nd gear. I think that it's still driveable, but I would have to shift from 1st right to 3rd.

I'll have the car by Tuesday, maybe Monday.

I've done this twice unfortunatly. First time was on a car with a 14b, It wasen't bad... Second was on a car with a turbo that didn't hit full boost until 4k rpms. I admit, That isn't laggy for me, But when you're going from 1st to 3rd gear... You need about 10 city blocks to re spool... Literally:cry: :sosad:

Something to consider, drain the tranny oil well and refill then drive the car while you sort out some of the other problems. Don't let people/members con you into doing folish things. It's quite possible to drive the car around skipping 2nd gear, I've done it as a matter of regular practice. You don't need to play stop light grand prix, just make sure the clutch is not slipped when going into 3rd before applying gas. You don't need to wind it out to get into 3rd for 2nd is actually a little too close ratio in my book. A little practice will have you driving like a pro throwing lazy shifts without attracting attention. This will buy you some time to figure out what is cost effective. I've done plenty of FWD trannies though not with DSMs, some can be a piece of cake while others can be a nightmare. You will have to evaluate your own skill level for DIY.

I've done if for over a month on a car already. If the car is free, Take it. Anyone who says they would not take it are either jealous or just have something wrong with them. This would be like seeing a 100 dollar bill in the street, And everyone saying you should have left it there for the next person. Goodluck with your new car.

This probably won't even be my daily driver. I have a real nice looking Eclipse that is getting a new engine put in next week as well as a new paint job. I'll use this car when I want to go have some fun and race some Hondas in my town.

Does your father own a shop in berwick? I think my buddy that delivers was talking to your father maybe? He was talking to someone at a shop that was doing an eclipse for their son. My buddy has a modded evo, Our other worker has a modded sti and i have the modded dsm... I think if it was your dad, He told my buddy to have us all stop up some time.

3rd gear pulls would have you at 90+. As I said, 2nd is almost a waste of time and the torque band would probably be in your favor. Just get rid of the clutch for if you try speed shifting into 3rd it will last a week. You must learn to shift by ear so you can come off the throttle, have the rpms exact for 3rd and drop it in as you hit the throttle. If you try to force it in you will wear out the syncros and then have to learn to double clutch which isn't a bad thing to know any more than heel and toe on a curvy mountain road.

Good luck,
GTM

Nah, LOL. We should hang out sometime though so you live so close.

Assuming all the stock parts work, what would be the first "cheap" mods I would want to do to this Talon? Or give me a list of mods in order that I should do, doesn't matter for price on this list, but the approx. price would be very helpful.

K, I think this post is pretty much done.. You're at the point now where you can do some research on your own. The list of mods is in the Tech Guide at the top of the page. www.vfaq.com is your friend, as well as the search button.

Congrads on the find.
