Yup, getting a 95/96 Eagle Talon TSi for free. Not exactly sure on the year. I'm not sure if it runs good or not, but from what the guy told me, it will only need a new transmission probably. No idea the condition of the exterior, interior, or anything. I don't even know what color it is, but the guy said it's really fast and turboed, so I'm assuming it's the TSi.

Something to consider, drain the tranny oil well and refill then drive the car while you sort out some of the other problems. Don't let people/members con you into doing folish things. It's quite possible to drive the car around skipping 2nd gear, I've done it as a matter of regular practice. You don't need to play stop light grand prix, just make sure the clutch is not slipped when going into 3rd before applying gas. You don't need to wind it out to get into 3rd for 2nd is actually a little too close ratio in my book. A little practice will have you driving like a pro throwing lazy shifts without attracting attention. This will buy you some time to figure out what is cost effective. I've done plenty of FWD trannies though not with DSMs, some can be a piece of cake while others can be a nightmare. You will have to evaluate your own skill level for DIY.

I second that.

I had a 93 Trans Am that was an automatic and when the auto failed for the second time in 6 months (the shop that rebuilt it did not replace or flush the trans cooler) I decided to change over to straight shift. The tranny I got had a bad 2nd gear so I drove it around like that for awhile until I had the money to get it fixed. Just drive it easy and like GTM said ease it into third because you can cause damage to the trans if you force it into gear.

Oh and this will also help you to get better at shifting the car because the most common missed shift is the 2nd to 3rd shift.

BTW I also ran a 13.9 @ 102mph at the track without 2nd gear in the car which was exactly 1 second sand 8 mph slower than the car was after I got the trans fixed. The best part was the look on the guy I beats face after he found out I didn't miss a shift, I just didn't have second gear.

K, I think this post is pretty much done.. You're at the point now where you can do some research on your own. The list of mods is in the Tech Guide at the top of the page. www.vfaq.com is your friend, as well as the search button.

Congrads on the find.

I would be interested in knowing who appointed you thread monitor? I don't remember designating you to represent my interests though I cannot speak for cHz and others who have contributed to the thread. I think it's highly presumptive ans suspect to jump into a thread and declare it's done unless you are taking over DSMtuners and are able to read mnnds. This is about as bizarre as I've seen in a long time.

I'm interested in hearing what he finds when the car shows up at his doorstep. Is it a silk purse or a sow's ear. I can only guess others are also interested in knowing what he finds and possible solutions to some basic problems.

It would be best if you confine your desire to manipulate others to threads you start rather than bringing your job skills here. That's my 2¢.

Cheers,
GTM
