Hey guys, I'd really like to do my own transmission rebuild (for the learning experience and the challenge) but there are some things that are not exactly clear from the FSM. I realize the FSM lists "special tools" but I'm wondering if there are any alternatives. So my questions are:

Which tools are absolutely required to disassemble the w5m33 gear clusters? Can I get away with just a bearing splitter (OTC 1124) and push/puller (OTC 938)?

Is a press absolutely necessary?

How about for assembly? I realize it's more involved but, basically, do the gears just slide on and then you tap the bearings in?

Thanks!

The gears themselves ride on needle bearings and just slide on but hub, bearings and other various parts do not slide on. They are very much pressed on. Understand some of the gears are part of the shaft. Not all transmissions are like that but ours are.
