Hey all. I've been mulling over the idea.. I've spent a stupid amount of money to get a decent palm that's extremely outdated, find a new battery for it, get a serial adapter, etc. etc.

I was thinking of porting MMCd to Android and then creating a bridge via Bluetooth from the OBD port of the car. Obviously this would be with first gens in mind, but I could likely expand it to include second gens at a later date (and when I have access to a second gen for testing). Let me know what you think, and if you would like to be added to an update list, send me a PM with your email (or post it here). Thanks!

Ya I got mine for 10$ but a palm is still so damn ghetto LOL.... anyways my m100 is. Would rather have this on my HTC Desire anyday or a Palm..

Just dl torque....bt adapter on the way...
Looks pretty neat..but id LOVE to have a dedicated logger for 2g

Love the idea... it would be great to be able to configure more graphs/gauges and take advantage of a 7" plus screens on some of these new low price Android touch screen tablets that are due out by the end of the year, or first part of next.

I think people are missing the fact that MMCd is a lot more powerful than Torque. Either way.. proof of concept is up in the marketplace. Search MMCd or MMCdroid. I work on it daily.

And flaatr: I was thinking the exact same thing. As soon as that new Eken model (can't remember the name of it) hits the market, I'm snatching it up. You can just do so much with the Android platform.. makes iPhone users wish they had the power and openness. :) One example is the fact that I likely wouldn't even be able to release this proof of concept for iPhone.. rubbish..

I'm sure their would be plenty of 2g people that would rather use MMCD over Torque when you get that far I was simply putting it out there since it's Already availabe...Not trying to take away from what your doing here.

I had already downloaded the MMCD App from the market. I just updated it... . Still doesn't do anything?

A little more detail would help us help you... I downloaded the application but there is no setup or how to. You might think of starting a thread specifically for that or maybe a webpage.

(Cliq) won't allow me to do anything I see 2 buttons and that's it can't press them or pull up anything, keep it going tho,

I will find a Cliq to use and debug what you're stating. What's your version of Android OS...? It should be compatible with every version, but you never know..

would this work with a 1g?

I know that torque app is for obd2 only!

Did you even read the first post in the thread? or any of the thread for that matter?

This Is not a Working App yet, at this point their's no way to connect a Android phone to the ODB I of a 1g... .Atleast that I know of

just dowloaded the app on my evo 4g. the buttons work. brings you to the next screen where u have your readouts. also got to the screen that gives trouble codes. looks great. keep it up.

p.s. just bought a palm and cable today!! LOL

i did read it one morning i was half asleep.. for give me for the ignorant question!

Just downloaded it also.. and i too can not do anything but see a blank black page with to useless buttons at the bottom right corner!

i have the HTC Hero for sprint, not sure what android OS i have, ive done like 2 software updates, i would go check it but its dead on the charger!

If you have "useless buttons" - UPGRADE YOUR FACKING OS ALREADY! :p 1.5 is currently outdated by over a year. The method I use for button interaction only works on 1.6+, as will a lot of the other features due to implementation in 1.6. All 1.5 phones (to my knowledge) are rootable and upgradeable - just research it. You'll also be able to overclock it, so you'll get some more speed out of the ol' girl :)

Made a big breakthrough last night and graphing should be implemented in the next release! The framework is almost done, and after that comes the hardware! :) Excitement ensues!

There have been OBD2 scanners and whatnot for the iPhone for a long time. Easier to do than Android stuff. 1 OS to deal with and 1 phone. How many Android devices are there, and a different OS variant for each manufacturer/model? Just because something isn't approved by Apple doesn't mean it can't be done. I don't think most people would want to bother because of needing a piece of hardware to communicate with the phone wirelessly, whereas the palm/serial method is cheap as hell because it's all outdated hardware, much like the 1g :)

As their has been for Android phones he's talking about working on one for 1g's
Easier to do than Android stuff.
1 OS to deal with and 1 phone.

How is that?and Since when is has their been only one Iphone?

We're all talking about the same operating system
Just different versions no different then the IOS versions
How many Android devices are there, and a different OS variant for each manufacturer/model?
Yet most of them are all are working together
Just because something isn't approved by Apple doesn't mean it can't be done.
As goes with Android...

That's the Keyword here. the Palms all suck most don't have a Sd card to store memory and you constantly are having to put MMCD back on it and are losing your past logs most can't even be charged while being used...

But,
All an All... .this is ALL really Off-topic

I've seen him post this one more then one Board, and I don't understand why more people Can't/Aren't be more suportave... .Lets all just keep using $hitty 10+ year old hardwhere an softwhere an forget about anynew options that someone doesn't even have to kind enuf to share....

So many people have an android based phone, that I feel like this should have been done along time ago. New technology and great way to implement it. I always have my phone on me and might as well log with it.
