I dont like the pillar pod really anymore im just wondering if there is a thread on different gauge setups with pictures and a how to guide sorry if there I just couldnt find it I also have a 2g gst let me know thankyou

If you have a single din stereo you can buy a triple gauge (2 inch) single din to go under or above it. They are under $20 on eBay and you have plenty of room behind the gauges for wiring.

What's wrong with the pillar? Lol

I have a triple gauge setup on the pillar and I also have the double gauge bezel for the instrument cluster. I run boost, coolant temp and oil pressure on the pillar, my wideband is in the bezel by the gauges and ill have a fuel pressure gauge on the other side, I just haven't ordered it yet.

If I didn't have the gauge bezel by the instrument cluster I would have done the vent delete on the center console, since my ac has gone bye bye. If you still have all your creature comforts I'd put that one last on the list.

Believe it or not ive gotten pulled over for the pillar and I want to do something different custom not a vent or anything thats why I didnt know if anyone had anything and google is sucking right now LOL

I ve been pulled over at night twice, no tint on my car, and the cop didn't mention a single word about my gauges... and he asked me if I was hitting my brakes (used to have night shades on them) to see how bright they were, and he even let me go with moderately tinted tails.

That just seems like the cops have nothing to do in your town, LOL.

Do your have gauges have the auto dim feature when you switch on the headlights? Mine have it, but I don't have it hooked up.

I use a Volvo single din gauge panel in the stereo spot. I've used it on a few cars over the years. They are like 13 bucks and have an oem looking grain.

I wasnt doing anything just you know hitting a tad of boost through town and went to turn a corner had my blinker on and he looked at me and as soon I started going boom cherry went off and I was screwed

That thread gives no reasons behind anything. I also don't like the 3 pod pillar location for no other reason than its ricey to me. However, the pillar is the ideal location for gauges because you don't need to move your head to see them and only need minimal eye movement. That's the reason that racers use the pillar location and then street people adopted it for no reason but to follow suit. With that being said, you need to think about what is important for you to know at speed or when its the most important. Whats important for me is anything that can cause the engine to let go. Oil pressure and boost are really the only thing you need to know while racing, everything else is arbitrary because you cant possibly keep track of that many gauges and the road/line/shifting/braking. Any other gauges you may want EGT, wideband, whatever can be plugged into your tuning software to send data to be logged without a visible gauge because even in a drag race no one is looking at gauges except shift points. This is the OVERKILL setup I had before and I honestly only cared about my Oil pressure gauge.

I don't see your pillar pod being the reason for the stop though....

But I personally didn't like pillar pods either. I feel like they attract unwanted attention from cops, thieves, and ricers. I'd suggest mounting them in place of the center vents with a 3-gauge bezel. They're not obvious from outside but still easy to glance at while driving.

He said it was a distraction while driving and made take it done before I went a block back to my house so I just had my gauges dangling

During a 1/4 mile you might not have enough time to monitor a cluster of gauges, but your only going ~1/2 mile anyways. Someone that DD's a modified car could put a pile of gauges to good use, to include a wideband which is a vital monitor for ANY turbocharged car. Nothing like melting a ring land because you didn't want to look at one more gauge...

I use a gauge cluster bezel, a center vent panel, and then some gauge cups mounted to the steering wheel column cover.

Exactly why I don't have one anymore. It got annoying having kids in their beatup Civics and VW's revving at me once they saw the gauges.

I put a volt gauge where my stock oil psi and boost gauge was. I got sick of the oil gauge doing nothing and was going to put my wideband there but it wouldn't fit. The bolt gauge almost looks like it belongs.

Ive also had 3 sunpro minis below the cd player. Now I have my wideband and afc below the cd player. And I have the tripple pillar pod with glow shift gauges.

You know something I always thought would be neat yet practical is a Heads Up Display like the Vettes and newer Camaros have - reading AFRs and boost instead of displaying speed and RPM.

Do you mean the ones that project out in front of you? That would be sweet, I drove a newer vette at work that had that. Its like driving a car on a video game LOL.
