So long story short, when I replaced my heater hoses a while back and went to go refill my coolant someone decided to put wheel/rim cleaning acid in a conventional green coolant jug and not mark it, so I poured a cup of this stuff in my cooling system, so i flushed it out as soon as I realized but its so concentrated that some stayed in there and at up the bearing seal on the water pump and its leaking a nice green trail down my timing cover.

So, I ordered a gates water pump from rock auto. Got it in the mail today and opened the box to look at it and was confused.

at first I noticed the gasket and o-ring loose in the box... (prob just pick up oem ones) then I noticed no stub on the mounting piece for the pulleys, then I pulled it out and flipped it over and saw this:

I remember from when I put my now junk water pump on that it had the impellers exposed. So I did a search on ebay for gates 42163 and this is what I came up with:
Gates 42163 Engine Water Pump New Old Stock | eBay

That has the nub, bagged gasket and o-ring, and the exposed impellers I was expecting to see and the same part number...So whats the deal here? Did I get a redesigned one? Or the old version? A 95-99 pump in the wrong box? Anyone else seen this? I really only want to pull the timing belt once to get back to the water pump to replace it. Also had some marks on the mating flange with the block:

I know those will seal with the gasket, but I had zero fluid drips before this started leaking and I take pride having a car that doesn't leak when I take it to car meets. Any input is as always appreciated. Thanks.

It will work just fine. You cant base pic off of eBay, because most of them are just generic pics. As for the impellar design, the closed design is more efficient overall then the OEM open design. As for the locating pin, its not needed either. Once you get one bolt started the rest are easy.

thanks for the replies!

Is not a 95-99 water pump either

thanks, I don't know much about 2g specifics.

I looked at alot of posts on ebay, that one in specific that I linked too seemed to have item specific pictures. That someone actually took it out of the box and took pictures of it, not just a stock photo.

I was just a little worried because it doesn't look like the one I am about to take out once it warms up a bit here in northeastern Ohio.

So I did a little more research and went on advance auto part's website. The GMB water pump they have pictured has the same impellar style. So I guess its all good. Just wanted to get on here and make sure. Must be a new design or something. Thanks for the replies.
