gas overflow at fill up

This only started happening recently. When I fill up, and push the little lever down on the gas pump, the pump doesn't stop until gas starts overflowing out of the fill neck. At first I thought it was the gas station's pump (which never happened before), but this now happened at three different stations. I also noticed that even though I'm on E, I never get past 10 gallons to fill her up. Wtf is going on?

Remember having that exact problem, but do not remember how or if it was fixed. This thread: http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/gas-tank-overflowing.411870/ points to the fact that a vapor line can be clogged or vapor check valve stuck shut.

Thanks a lot. My gas mileage does suck as well. However, no smell of gas. How easy is it to replace this valve on my Tsi awd? Sorry to sound lazy, but it's ridiculously cold right now n I'm not trying to drop my tank.

From reading the forums dropping the tank seems to be the only way. You might be able to disconnect the vent line from the tank and blow it out with compressed air, but not having a 2G can't say for sure that even that is possible without removing the tank.

Well I'm not smelling gas so I'll just deal with it for now. I'll try to check the "canister" at the sending unit. Not sure if that even applies to a 2g awd. Thanks.
