Okay here is the deal,
I have searched this topic already and have narrowed down what could be going wrong. Most of the threads though, seem to stray of topic or focus manly on one possibility. I have an idea whats wrong with her. Its a 2g turbo AWD.
It could be a compression problem (how do i do a compressing test, what do i need?)
Bad ECU. In my opinion i think it might be this. The car couldn't pass emissions. Running rich. Too many hyber something carbons. Plus the car just smells when its running. It might be the exhaust leak, but it smells really rich.

I bought it from a guy who "promised" it would pass emissions. When i get it running again I will have a lovely fine for the Colorado Emissions. 25$ a month. its been 3 months already. I have to wait until summer for my job to start again so i can fix the many problems it has. Im just trying to figure out everything that needs to be done, so that when money comes in, I can fix her.

If you guys have any other ideas, let me know.

Also if anyone knows a good way to get a bolt that broke off into the car out that would be helpful too!

Thanks, Taran

if the car is running to rich gas will get in oil. IF the piston rings are really bad gas will get into the cylinders. Get a long magnet at autozone for like 2 dollars.

i ment that oil will get into where the gas should be.

Yes, i dont think its a bad piston ring. It ran fine, did not feel like I was missing any power. It just smelled like an old 60's car. Really rich.

What do i do with this magnet?

to compression test it just go to auto zone and rent a compression tester for like 30 dollars i think? when u take it back you get all your money back.
to compression test it just take out the spark plugs, disable the fuel and ignition if youd like, screw the compression tester into a cylinder and give it wide open throttle and crank it. im not sure what the compression should be tho. make sure to do all cylinders also.

Well I wouldn't drive it much the gas can wash down the cylinder walls and then it will be just metal grinding on metal and if you're lucky it will just be piston rings. You should check your fuel pressure.

The thing is both oil pressure gauges dont work, the stock one and the after market one also doesnt work. The guy I bought it from said some oil line was clogged or something and that thats why the gauges wernt working. Can this be true?

Edit: I didnt realize you said fuel. Sorry. But how do test fuel pressure?

Well i know you hook up a vacuum guage to the vacuum line near the fuel pressure regulator and compare it to some posted specs. You can buy the magnet rod to dig out bolts you have dropped. As for the fuel pressure test you should have the car idleing. Would you happen to know if you have a stock fuel pump in it? The oil guages might have the wire or clip broke off them on the engine.

If an oil line was clogged then you would have high oil pressure. I do not think that itd stop the guages from working. Sometimes the fpr can malfunction and let to much fuel in. Is your car a turbo model?

i really doubt a "line" is clogged. the 4g63's have a mettal clip connecting to an oil pressure sending unit. ... if that clip has broken it will not work or read correctley. just check your oil filter housing for the sensor and see if the wire is still connected to it.

No i doubt the last owner got a tune. It needs one. Maybe that would help the failing emissions. From what i herd it sounds like he just slaped the new ported turbo up with no tuning.
But currently she cant be tunned. Its on jack stands in the garage. I got into a small accident and the front drivers side suspension got pushed back. Theres a broken bolt in the car that i dont know how im going to get out.
Junk yard soon here i come!!!:sneaky:

First thing you want to do is preform a compression test. If the compression test is good (all cylinders should be about the same) you should give the car agood tune up.Make sure the timing is correct. If that is fine check for vacum leaks, visually inspect all vacum lines and the intake side of the engine, check your intercooler for cracks also look at all your rubber hoses and make sure to check for loose hose clamps. If that checks out take at look your O2 sensor. Also clean your MAFF sensor while your at it you should clean your throttle body, check the gaskets on the TB.I don't believe your ecu is bad.Why start by going with the most expensive fix. With a little time and cleaners you could save yourself some money. As for the oil pressure gauges check the sensors

is some of the broken bolt sticking out? if so heat it up with a propane torch and try spinning it out that way with vice grips. thats worked for me many of times.
is your CEL on? you could have something as simple as a bad o2 sensor

a clogged pvv valve wouldn't cause it to run rich.

o2 sensors tend to fail towards the rich side.

well it stands for positive crackcase ventialtion, its mainly something for emissions. just google pvc valce im sure youll find a better definition than i can give you.

positve crack case ventialtion. just google pvc valve.

Well the car running rich gets gas in the oil. it washes the oil off the cylinder walls then gas slips by the piston rings and goes to the oil pan. the pvc valve is used for emissions basically.

before you get yourself looking for new parts or whatnot compression test it first to see where your at.

He might have more then one problem check your pvc vavle take it off the vavle cover and blow in it make sure you can only blow 1 way report back

firefighter:
The bolt is the big one that holds up the whole suspension. Its hard to describe. I'm pretty sure there is 2 of them. The one that broke is

Here is a link to a picture. its the bolt that holds up the big bottom part. Im sorry i dont know the names of all these parts. Easier to show then describe.

You should not have gas in your oil. the oil is going to have a unburned gas smell to it. If the oil is increasing on the dip stick that could be gas in the oil than you have major problems. All these little problems are causing the ecu to start to recalibrate and over compensate and not run correctly. What has to happen is the engine has to be put back to OEM form to get it to run correctly than as you start to up grade parts (make more power) you have to examine whole systems. Just don't put on a larger turbo and think it's going to make more power. Rember the Ecu is desinged to make the engine run a little on the rich side because you dont want it lean because you'll ruin the engine If it's running right you'll pass inspection.this is were the o2 sensor comes into play. I'll bet your the car has lousy gas mileage and has poor excelaration.

Firefighter:
The car is stock my friend. It has the 14b. No fuel upgrades. Nothing.
So from what your saying it wouldnt make since. I did have horrible gas mileage but she pulled pretty hard still.
And for the pvc I just ran out to the car to test if i could blow into it, and there is like a glue holding it on. It looks like JB weld kind of gunk. I took a picture of it but this site is so damn difficult. I cant post the picture. Do i need a Photobucket account or something?

hmmmmm pvc is hacked up i wonder...... get that thing off and make sure it's good. I dont want to hear it's glued on there get it off. Now that you say it's hacked somebody must of messed with it before. I bets its bad causing the unburnt fuel to go in the crankcase smelling like gas in your oil be careful it will start to thin out your oil
