I just got this dual BB turbo. Brand new and it has some play up and down (minimal) and less than a click in/out. Is this normal for a new dual ball bearing turbo?
First time with a BB turbo

Completely normal, don't worry about it. The bearings need a bit of room to float on the oil when it gets pressure. My BB 50-trim was the same when I first looked at it.

The play is normal.

I am wondering who you got the turbo from though? I ask because I was not aware that garrett made a 94mm 40R. I didnt know if this was a typo or you got some kind of a cool hybid.

Good luck to you,

Jake

The problem is that myspace is limited, and in addition spool is amazing. By 4300rpm I have 13 psi already. This turbo unlike the gt4088 is rated at 850hp, a little less than the gt4294 but is a better spool .
I dyno next tuesday, will let you know the results.

Not to bash but you should have gotten the 4294 since its not that much more and is good for a LOT more whp

I wouldn't say alot, especially at this point. There is less than a 5 lb/min differenece in terms of flow from the compressors. Granted the turbine side isn;t going to flow nearly as much with a small hotside, but you can get the 1.19 on the 4094r and have it flow the same as a 1.01 42r hotside.

Got it on the car along with some 280s, I was suprised at how soon it made boost. T4 divided .95AR, have only started setting up the base tune and am running spring pressure (24PSI), made full boost at 5250 confirmed by map sensor in logs.

How does it feel at 24psi? Are you on a 2.0? I have really been looking at this turbo but there isn't much info on it.

Chris, I believe John's still working on the tune. He has only had this turbo for maybe a few weeks or so.

John, need to see those logs when you turn it up buddy! ;)

Yeah, it figures. I know several people that are going to be running this turbo this year but no numbers yet. I want to see what it can do before I decide on my next turbo. I figure either this one or one of the 42Rs.

Did some 29 psi pulls last night but was geting blow out. I will fix the problem this evening and start workig up the boost more. I have only put maybe 40 miles on the turbo and have been chasing a few gremlins up to now.

yeah it is a nice turbo, we actually have that turbo on a customers RB26DETT powered 240sx, we are looking for 700whpish on stock motor on a mustang dyno.

Weight was 2950, 37-38ish psi but with very little timing, would have made as much power at 30 psi with more timing I am sure. We will see what happens this weekend with the timing back in the car. I also need to learn to run out the gears, shifting at 84-8500 with this turbo and the 280s is pointless.

After being told that this turbo isn't that great for dsms I was dead set on not getting it. But you actually installed it and have the numbers to prove its a good turbo. What a/r turbine housing did you go with? And yes please keep this updated :thumb:
