He's obviously doing it to 1. Prove he can, 2. Learn something new, or 3. Just because this is his hobby. Not everyone is driven by time and money. You might only "waste" your time if you see an immediate benefit for you, but this guy might just be doing it for s***s and giggles. Lighten up. It's not your time or money he's spending.

And feedback can also be construed as constructive criticism. Not just bashing on him or calling it stupid.

"Lighten up" ROFL Buddy I could carless what he does. He asked for opinions we gave them. What are you his fan club president? hahahahahahahahaha Your more amusing than the rediculous intercooler!!!! LOL

If you need 50psi to make 600whp, your system ####ing sucks. I'm plannin on seeing 600whp at about 30psi. I also run a very small intercooler. But then again, I have a n/t. What the #### do I know?

Hey you a$$hole! Leave him alone! You big meanie. Dont give any opinion other than a positive one!! :p

This is so fake, A. Look at the hood line and the top of that intercooler. The top of it is clearly above the hood line, and the 2g hood scoops down at the end to boot. And B, he has it sitting on a sideways and longways 2x4. Thats 6 inches off the ground. That would never fly.

If he mounts it on top just right, it just may fly :D.

That turbo and intercooler combo is ridiculous. This thread is winning, just for the comedic value. Good luck man :thumb:

Thanks I thought it was quite funny myself. These other people don't quite get the humor. :toobad:

Dude. Everyone who's got something negative to say on this thread really should've just moved along. I think this is absolutely awesome, regardless of how functional it is or crazy it looks. Let the guy mod his car and quit getting your panties in a bunch because you're jealous he has a cooler car than yours.

Good work OP. This is more ambitious than 90% of people on here would even consider attempting. You sir, are a real dsmtuner in my mind. Don't let these guys or your wife stop you from doing what you want with your time, money and car.

hahaha thanks... I've seen that it's possible to fit this intercooler on the vehicle. Question is, do I have the impetus to cut the nose off my hood to make it work? The other question is a more practical one; Passing inspection. LOL

ROFL So according to you, we shouldnt give feedback? He made a thread asking for feedback...LOL. "regardless of how functional or crazy it looks" is a hilarious statement. hahahahahah Thanks for the insight!
Just doing something to do it, without a benefit is the definition of stupidity. Why throw time and money into a "project" that yields no real results? Just to say you did it? If you have that much time on your hands, you need a better hobby. Im all about fabrication and one off projects, but only if they serve some purpose weather it be functionality or appearance. This is just ridiculous. You guys crack me up!!

:hmm:

Where in this:

This is it, gentlemen. The ender of all intercoolers... and I just might put it on my car. :thumb:

FREIGHTLINER FLD112 Charge Air Cooler by Garrett. Garrett PN 485800-5003. It's an aftermarket upgrade for FLD112 short hoods. High efficiency core & cast aluminum end tanks. You can tell the end tanks were designed with laminar flow in mind, and to distribute the flow across the entire core. 4" inlet and outlet. Surprisingly light weight for it's size. The volume is also amazingly low. This thing is a real piece of engineering.

Do you see him asking for feedback?

Unless I'm missing something?

Anyways, it is a pretty retarded idea, but I'm glad he actually did it, and posted pictures... Always entertaining to see something like this, so props to the OP... He also did say multiple time that this was more a joke than anything...

I think it's amazing how much arguing this stirred up, not only about the big intercooler but between members. :D This forum needs more stuff out of the norm otherwise things get to be status quo.

Way to be different man. I like the fact you tried something new.

Finish it!
It's dumb. It's different. It's fun.

Heh, it's not going away. :thumb: I'm keeping this intercooler around. This might not be the right project for it, but this monster needs to make a debut on something. Maybe it's more suited to a 4G63 dune buggy, with rear a engine.

I joke around about diesels now since I almost bought a diesel truck engine before the DSM. kthackst showed me how inexpensive DSMs could be... ironically, here I am shoehorning diesel parts on a DSM!

2x4's aren't actually 2'' by 4'', thats closer to 5'' off the ground. Not that it matters...:D

i used to be an autobody tech at a freightliner dealership. if you want to do some ridiculous stuff, i have some pics of my dsm with some fld parts on it

WOW! this is crazy and completly stupid but i think it's funny how people are getting so heated over a car that's not even there's LOL! to the OP do it man lets see a video of it driving down the road LOL! seriously do it!

im not sure if i want to post them...dont want to ruin my talons rep you know. i will see if i can find them pics...i think they are on my old phone

So it probably does have more surface area than MOST other intercoolers. I bet my 4" GReddy core had close to the same surface area though. Other than WOW factor using this on your car is just not a wise venture.

You have to remember after 3" thick you lose a lot of cooling efficiency.
I have to say I had a similar idea when I was installing a net work in a international tractor dealship. I came across a similar intercooler, but it made me want to turbo my truck were I could hide the intercooler

Thanks for bringing that up. Cross flow heat exchangers lose a lot of efficiency the thicker they are, due to temp rise. You're right, there's a reason these fld coolers are made with huge frontal area...

Apparently I already took the brunt of the laughter, so now it's shameless. Post em' if you got em'! LOL

Hi,

Did you look into cores that flow top to bottom? You could get a good portion of the heat loss you would see with this core and a probably a fraction of the pressure loss. I would be interested to see your pressure loss through this core. Going with the top to bottom core may also have helped you to run something like a bumper to get better aero. Not trying to bash your ideas, just giving my 2 cents. Personally I think this is a very interesting experiment/project.

Also, is the VGT control going to be open or closed loop? If it is closed loop what parameter or parameters are you going to use to control it? Boost pressure would make sense for this application i think. You will want to log exhaust manifold pressure as well to make sure you are not choking the engine or causing high pumping losses while you are populating your tables.

Hi Bill,

The VTG will be closed loop. I'm working on a controller that will accept pressure ratio and shaft speed by default, along side digital IO if other sensors or the ECU become involved. EGT sensor will be tell-tale about back pressure, if I don't require a separate pressure sensor altogether... which remains to be seen. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/turbo-system-tech/395939-he351ve-controller-project.html

I've looked at the Treadstone Performance top to bottom FMIC as an option since the pressure drop is lower than a horizontal flow. Treadstone Performance TR25/TRV259 Universal Intercooler - Modern Automotive Performance It's a tempting option.
