Ok, as far as i know, i have the stock t25 turbo on my 97 gst. But the turbo has a badge on it that says "Garret" "Made in Japan". Does everyones have this or is mine just strange? the only reason i ask is because i got the car from a wholesale dealers auction and am not very sure of any of the history. thanks in advance!

Got any pics of this??? All the ones i have seen with the garret badged on them are "20g style" turbo's

I will take sum pics tommorrow, i would seriously shit myself if i found out i had an upgraded turbo! I doubt it, but it would be badass either way.

When and how long do you hit and hold boost?

If it is anything before 2.3k and you hold until around 5.3k you have a T25. But don't feel to bad. I just, as of today, witnessed a 14.2 run on a t-25.:thumb:

That would be like finding some money in your old jacket pocket. But like chad said you can do your thing with that t25. Keep your fingers crossed.

It has to be a t25, my luck just isnt that good. But it hits full boost at like 3k or so and it will hold good boost on up past 5.5k(i havent run it to redline yet), and i do get a bit of boost creep, which i have heard to be rare on a t25. But the turbo looks small too. If i do have an upgraded turbo, i will be kinda mad though, because i would still want to upgrade my turbo myself and make it faster. If this is as fast as it gets with out stepping to a 50-trim i will be a bit mad. oh, and it doesnt have a 3inch inlet if that helps. I just put a 2.75in dejontool intake harpipe on today:thumb:
i will def. take pictures tomorrow.
But does Garret make the t25 for our cars anyways?

My friend you may be on to something.
the t25 has a 2/2.25 inch inlet. rarely creeps (what do you creep to?) and looks just like a t28. OMG

well, i will take pics today, liek i said. but it will only creep a few PSI, after installing my new TRUST MBC yesterday. before that, it would hit up to like 19 or 20, i dont know if it would go higher. because as soon as i see it up that high, i let off the throttle. and the intake i put on, i put on the 2 and 3/4 dejontool, and the rubber boot had to be crimped down a bit on it. not alot, but a little bit to get it to fit perfect. when i got the car, it had a few mods on it:shhh: :)thumbdown i know, i know, i hate buying modified cars too, but i got it for 4600 with 78k) but the turbo still had the stock intake (rubber) pipe on it.
i will take pics for you today!:thumb:

is there any fuel mangement stuff in the car? if there is, there is a good chance he upgraded the turbo as well.

No, as far as i know, i am very curious about the fuel pump though because i get terrible gas mileage. I have anther post about that though. It had A/F guage, and boost guage, and turbo timer. that is the extent of the electronic mods. i will post pics tonite!:thumb:

Ok, here is the pics of the badge plate i have been talkign about! It is kinda dark and blurry, but you can get the idea

if you can see it clearly, it says Garret in the upper right hand corner.
So, what do you guys think?

not when i have it on "close-up" mode. if it isnt on closeup mode then it is blurry, when taken that close up! sorry guys

Well, do you think you could try shining a flashlight at it while you take the pic? Just lodge the flashlight somewhere so that it's aimed at the plate, and then snap the pic.

what do you need to read?
this is what it says:
Made in Japan GARRETT
ZK 0671 J
MR187909
466491 - 5
here is the picture, with lightening:

is that any better?

hmmmmm.................
does anyone else have this badge on there stock t25 turbo? or do you think that mine might have been rebuilt with a t28 wheel, or similar, like stated above? strange

Pull the intake piping off the compressor to the turbo..

If the compressor blades look like this..

...it's T28.

If you have single fins, it's a T25.

Externally the T25 and T28 are identical.

The first clue I had that I didn't have a T25 was the external HKS wastegate. ;)

hey by the way, i just took my stock turbo off my 97 gst and it has the same badge but it reads: AA 0695J
MR187909
466491-5
other markings on the turbo are a/r .48

it also has twin blades

alright, i will try and pay close attention when i go back home from school. But does anyone else have this badge on their turbo?

*oh yea.. like stated above. if you have a boost gauge.. just take her for a spin and if boost falls of to around 10 psi after 5.5k rpm then you have a t25

mine doesnt do that, but i think that is because i have a downpipe to a 3 inch exhaust. if he has the stock exhaust it would fall, right?
