fwd drive shaft removal help

Driveshafts, you mean the axles? If thats what you mean, since you have a fwd, all you do is shove a flat head screwdriver into the axle seal and push until the seal is broken. Then pull out the axle. Very simple.

You are going to have to replace the seals with new ones, or i should say it is recommended. When you put new seals in, just get them into there repective hole, and press around the seal evenly until it goes into place, it will not go in all the way until the axle is put back in.

Hope that helps.

We just did that with my buddies car. He has a 2G and we unbolted the upper and lower control arm, and the steering rack and then separated the hub from the lateral arm so we could twist the hub. We did that so we didnt have to pull the axle out from the the hub. You are also going to half to take off the axle nut BEFORE you remove the brakes and wheel. Loosen that while the tires are on the ground. That axle nut is over 100 ft/lbs of tq. It should be a metric 34 IIRC.

A pickle fork, breaker bar, big ass sockets, deep welled sockets, flathead screwdriver and some PB blaster or WD40 and brake cleaner would all be nice to have to do the job.

I've never removed any off the ball joints to pop the axles from the tranny. Just removed the inner bolt from the front control arm & trying to remember if I had to remove the inner bolts from the rear curved front control arm? (its been a few years). Believe also removed the sway bar end links but then things should just swing enough out of the way to pop the axles. I just used a nice sized pry bar on the inner part of the axle assembly, popped them out without any issues.

You def have to remove both the trailing control arm (rear bolt) and teh horizontal left to right inner bolt. I didnt remove the ball joint, just what the control arms connect to.

I just pull the two bolts that hold the struts to the knuckles and pull them down and to the outside of the car. Then I use a prybar to pop the shaft out of the transmission. Gently of course. This is on a 1g, btw.

1G are so much easier. I had to replace both of mine and were much easier. I think working on a 1G is easier in general.
