I have a full turboback exhaust on my 2g talon AWD. Im looking to get a new catback and was wondering if there really is a huge piping(giggidy) difference in the FWD and AWD exhausts. Basically, if i find a nice 2g FWD catback i want, could I use it on my 2g awd? Reason im asking is because im seeing a lot of the nicer catbacks (thermal R&D, etc.) for sale but are for 2g FWD.

Thanks for any input on my overly retarded and simple question.

FWD exhausts have more bends, AWD exhausts are straighter. The gas tank on an AWD is a different shape, which the exhaust fits around as well as the rear differential I believe. The exhaust mounting brackets would also be in the wrong places.

What exhaust do you have on your car now that you want to upgrade/replace?

Will not work with out major mods. The exhaust on a fwd runs more down the enter of the tunnel the awd is offset to the drivers side all the way to allow for the drive shaft. Awd goes under the center of the tank and fwd goes around the tank. Also most fwd exhaust I have seen go over the rear sub frame where the awd goes under. You might as spend more on modifying a fwd exhaust that it would cost to buy an awd one once its all said and done.

For the 1 g the passenger side is the same,on the driverside the half shaft makes the difference,i am right now using my fwd n/t passenger side axle on my 1g awd like i said dont know about the 2g.As for the fwd axle having more bends than the awd,not true the axle is perfectly straight and balanced, any bends would cause vibrations

Oh, we're talking about the exhaust, not the axles. :coy:

i just took a fwd full 3 inch exaust and hacked it up to put it on a awd. it turned out great, but if i had to do it again, i would just spend the money for it premade.

the difference was for the fueltank. from the turbo, to the tank was the same, and from the back end of the tank to the rear fit right in place. where the fwd wraps around the fuel tank, you would have to cut out, and straight pipe goes there. oh, and only like 2 of the hangers lined up. i had to fab my own. i started on it at like 11:00 am today, and got done at3:30 pm, and i have experience with exaust and welding. so times may differ.LOL

wow, only if that was what he was asking, that was a great explanation on it.LOL

thanks for all the input guys. I just didnt know the difference.
I have a 3" megan racing downpipe into a 2.5" magnaflow catback which is real quiet. I wanted a full 3" catless system. Thanks!
