I just ordered a Cat-back system from ATR for my '92 Talon Non Turbo FWD and unfortunately it hasn't arrived yet due to some problems they had with my order, but I'm starting to wonder if this will even fit my car. I ordered an exhaust for a '92 FWD, but all of the DSM parts they carry are in the "Forced Induction" category. Is there any difference between cat back exhausts for Turbo and Non Turbo FWD DSM's? Also I have another question; I also bought a new OBX header and new Magnaflow cat. The header has a pipe size of 2 1/4", the cat is a factory replacement size of 2", and my exhaust is 3" w/ a 4" tip but it is supposedly a "direct bolt-on replacement". I really have no clue if this setup will help of hurt performance. I would appreciate any insight into this, Thanks!

Its only a cat back, so it shouldn't hurt it too much, he will still have backpressure from the cat.

I didn't want to go 3", but the only other FWD exhaust I could find was the Thermal exhaust, which was a little more than I wanted to spend, and that's 3" too. My only other option would be to have an exhaust custom made, and I don't think I would want to spend that kind of money either.

I would have gotten a local muffler shop to make an exhaust, but a good muffler will cost somewhere around $200 or more, a good 4" tip like the one I'm getting is around $70, plus the cost of some stainless pipes, having them bent properly, and having them install it will add up to around what I paid for the ATR. Or could have gone with the Pace Setter, but I figure you get what you pay for. Just as long as the ATR fits right! My only concern was about the difference between N/T and Turbo cat-backs, if there is any. Just have to wait until it arrives.

200 for a muffler OMG where are you shopping at? You can get a decent muffler off of ebay for 50 or less.

i had an exhaust shop make me a 3" exhaust with pressbends from my flexpipe back for like 75 bucks.... its all about who you know and who you can talk to... this was some chinese lady that ran the shop and i got her to do all of my friends cars exhausts for less than 100. with a fwd you could get away with 3" pressbends and it'll probably flow like a 2.5 for better backpressure b/c it hasta go over that dead axel... i know b/c i had 3" pressbent on my gst.... but pretty much you could try to go to an exhaust shop and see how much it is... i doubt it'll be the price of a prefabbed catback...

just my $00.02

you can get mufflers off ebay for 50 or less, then take it to a shop and have them make what you want. id do 2.5" if they can do mandrel, or do 3" if they will be doing pressbent. pressbending will make the overall circumfrence of the bent part smaller by up to 20%, thus reducing airflow. going 3" on a pressbent will give the same area as a 2.5" with mandrels.

youre only flow as much as youre thinnest connection.

Sure, you can get a muffler off of Ebay, you can get a fake HKS muffler for $5 or there's some OBX ones for around $50. I got my new OBX header off of Ebay for $150 because it's discontinued or something (msrp is somewhere around $300). It's not the worst or the best, it's alright. But if you want something like a real HKS or other name brand muffler off of Ebay, your still gonna pay around $175 or up. It just depends on how much your willing to spend, and much you want to risk getting ripped off. There's a lot of import part dealers on Ebay with really bad feedback. Your muffler is something everyone will notice without even looking at the car. This ATR muffler that comes with my cat-back has 99.99% un-restriced air flow. That might also be a little more than I need right now, but if I add a turbo later on, then it'll give me more than enough airflow. I was even thinking about adding an electric cutout.

That's what I was thinking. My Dynomax ultraflow + tips came to less than $100 all together.

I paid $280 for my HKS.
Did you pay $280 for the muffler or the entire cat-back? Maybe I spent too much on my cat-back, I spent $450. But just as an example, I typed in GReddy muffler into Ebay's search page, I think I only found one real one, and it was $150 USED. I typed HKS muffler and I found a couple of real ones, they were like $175 and up. The one I'm getting is a standard style muffler though, and I don't think it's been polished or anything, so maybe I would have been better off having my exhaust custom made, I don't know. It's already been bought so it's a little after the fact now. Just as long as it fits, that's all I care about.

Why dont you go through Summit or Jegs and pick out a NON-bling muffler that will work better than the shiney round bling bucket? They can usually be had for $100 and down and they sound pretty nice compared to more expensive brands. I have an Edelbrock 5525, its non-bling to the max, and sounds better than any round shiney muffler I've personally heard. I paid $100 and painted it black for the stealth effect :shhh:

What the hell is so great about REAL parts  metal is metal man, there are a shitload of n/t fwd catbacks all over ebay. Most of them made by tsudo and megan, seach for them on here, they are some of the best made catbacks around, the welds are flawless :thumb: . No need to waste money on stupid shit like NAMEBRAND woopty####indo. HKS and GReddy is over rated, that's why you don't see them much on eclipses except for the greddy UICP and BOV.
