I want to remove my dashboard and old gauge cluster and replace it with just a cell phone or touch screen all in one pc..

gotta be over 100lbs of weight in that thing.. are there any how to's in removing this?

Does anyone know of software or droid apps etc that can be used as gauges for a car?

maybe gps speedometer.. not sure how i'm gonna do the tachometer.. that may need to be a digital gauge since i'm assumeing it needs to be hooked up to a vaccume line and isn't electrical?

tho when the battery is almost dead the tach messes up.. so is the tach on these cars electrical?

Do i need to keep all the indicator lights? for it to run or pass inspection?

does anyone have a completely torn out talon? have you ever had problems getting it inspected?

So basically you want to shave .19 seconds off your street 1/4 mile in an already slow car? That sounds stupid to me (ignoring the fact that street racing itself is stupid), and you're calculator's are off. I'd love to see a 10-15mpg gain from just taking out your dash.

The above gauge dash would require a new title due to the fact that there is not no known mileage any more.

Keep the dash in, I've taken mine out multiple times and it's >50lbs. It's just a plastic and foam shell around more stuff underneath it. The wiring would be a complete PITA but it's do-able if you have the time and knowledge to do it. There are a couple threads up on how to put a S2000 cluster in and with all that is involved I wouldn't even attempt it personally.

If you do plan on doing this, pull it all out, make a sheet metal dash board, put some gauges in it. Throw in a roll cage, strip the bi*** down and make it a track only car as that's the only way to save enough weight to make any sort of difference IMO.

xD slow? LOL! it's faster then alot of other cars even with 100hp. xD

no i'm not raceing on the street, that is retarded, that is just how we drive here usually on a good day with not alot of traffic. if your not from here, i'd advise you stay right, and pay attention..cause alot of the drivers here won't slow down or pay attention and often slower drivers cause issues if they are wandering all over the road.. i've been all up and down the east coast, except for newyork and the upper northeast..and virginia is some of the best and worst all wrapped up..xD what is it with floridian's driving so slow? xD

it'd be nice if people stop using their cells phones while driveing too.. and drinking while driveing as well..
just don't do it.. turn the things off or atleast vibrate..use hands'free if you Must chat so much..and hold off on drinking until you get to a better place.. jeez..

the cops will setup check points in the ghetto, but not the upper side of town... even after a contruction worker got hit..

btw, great job on that road guys! i could roller blade up that jank now xD it's sooo smooth! it's been needing this kinda workover for a long long time XD those guys need a party or something as a thank you for such an excellent job xD

and remember even if it's not a law in your area... if you see construction workers on the side of a road, or cops pulling someone over... slow down! and pull over a lane if you can! give them space without causeing a crash or stopping traffic...and don't do 45 when the speed limit is 65-70...even in the right hand lanes.. if you can't do the speed limit, don't get on the fin highway!

something kinda funny, "they broke into my car to steal the roof rack..."

LOL and yes my calculations are off, i did not input rolling resistance.

And i have seen more then 10 mpg increase at speeds below 80, by removeing what i have already. back seats, and some plastic.. PS and a/c, even if I drive a little harder..

when i first bought the car i'd go threw a tank of gas in under 200 miles, driving hard. now i can get 300+ regardless.. less if i'm carrying a load..hard driving doesn't mean racing around town... but getting up to speed as quickly as possible, it's the stop lights that kill my mpg.. and we get more and more of those every month or so.. much of the 65+mph rural highways we had while growing up are now 35-45 mph zones, with 4-6 stoplights every 50-100 miles.. it sux alot.. almost nothing here has remained the same the last 10-15 years.. I definately blame walmart.. now it takes an hour to get w/e your going.. when it used to take 10-15 min.. unless you use the highways..

I borrowed this picture, from someone's attempts at a 2 tone int paint job. Ew... I dunno what people were thinking.

That support beam i estimate to be 20 lbs at the least. It could be much stronger, cleaner and lighter with tube steel. the A/c blower 15-35 lbs.

Just those 2 pieces alone... But this is basically to help bring something solid to the idea of removing parts of the dash.
