Fuel filter... Help!

ok, so im trying to install a fuel filter, and im about to strangle a baby in anger.. so save a baby and help me out

i have a 1995 eclipse GS. so the fuel filter is located under the windshield wiper fluid resivoir, i took that off and the battery plate, and found the filter. But for the life of me i can't figure out how to get it off, and im worried my full tank of gas will pour out. anyone done this before? help? pics or a vid would be epic! thanks!

Not familiar with the '95 version, but my guess is its either banjo bolts or a form of flare fitting. Either way you wont loose the whole tank of gas but just as a disclaimer you should keep any ignition sources away becaus you will spill enough to burn the car to the ground if it manages to ignite. You should place rags under the filter to soak up as much of the gas as possible and dispose of properly afterwards.

Either version of those fittings will be eisiest to loosen while holding the filter still, any I have ever seen have a hex of equal or larger size just below where the fitting attaches. By this I mean you will use 2 wrenches to loosen it, one to hold the filter and the other to turn the fitting out. Then it should have a bracket to attach it to the firewall that will have to be released.

First thing to do is relieve the fuel system or you're gonna get soaked with gas.; Pull the fuel pump relay and start your car until it turns off by itself. Then you can remove the filter. I would use an open line wrench so you wont strip out the nut holding the line to the filter.

Disconnect the fuel pump relay. Its under the rear seats. Then turn the car on until it dies. That will relieve the fuel system pressure. Then it's pretty much like what phoenix said Make sure you use 2 wrenches. You will spill some gas so be ready for it

Thank you! got it all worked out, and followed your advice about turning off the fuel pump relay. was having so much trouble because to the rust... ended up deforming the entire filter about 15 degrees before the bolt finally gave way.
