fuel cut in 4th gear but not 3rd?

this morning i hit fuel cut in 4th gear at only 1650hz, but i can get to 1800 hz in 3rd gear wtih no fuel cut. why is this? i thought fuel cut was dependent on airflow, but does load somehow affect it also?

Are you positive it's fuel cut? If not check your plugs and wires. I had this happen to me a few times and it feels very much like fuel cut. Turned out to be that I had a few bad wires, changed those out and it was all good.

Most of your problem is that we don't have enough information to help you. You have a Galant VR-4 and your bolt on mods are "stuff".

You also have a Tsi with "a few less mods".

Get your act together and fill out your profile properly. You have 224 posts under your belt and should have done that a long time ago.

why do mods make a difference in this particular situation? it's a simple question that someone should be able to answer whether my car is stock or fully built.
just for those people that think it does make a difference, the car that it happened on was 14b, stock injectors, 255, fmic, 3" turbo back, 18psi.

that's understandable, but i go through these cars and their mods way too often to keep trying to update my profile every couple months.i figure if someone needs to know the mods to diagnose a problem i'll post it.

A good example of why mods need to be listed is... if you were trying to run about 22lbs. on the stock fuel system. You would be asking for fuel cut in that situation. (Not that I've ever done that. )

fuel cut has nothing to do with the fuel system. as for seeing fuel cut at 1650 in 4th and not when seeing over 1800 in 3rd would also lead me to believe a possible ignition problem as well.

my best suggestion would be to remove the lower honeycomb on your mas and see if that makes the problem go away. if it does then it was definately fuel cut and if it's still there try a new set of wires with either new plugs or try regapping your old ones. you could be experiencing spark blow out but i highly doubt that on a 14b and 18psi.

you might be right.... the plug wires are probably kind of old on this car. the mas has been modded already, but the plugs might also need attention.
