Cobble Hill,
My car is up on jackstands and in gear, the front wheels spin freely while the rears are locked. why would they be spinning freely? here is what happened. I was driving down the highway, downshifted to fourth, the mounting bracket that holds the left half shaft in place snapped the bolts out. Something else obviously happened at the same time but I'm not sure what. It also has the symptoms of a slipping clutch but the speedo jumps with the rpm meaning that the clutch is fine and its happening somewhere else. anyone have any ideas?

If spinning the front drivers wheel clockwise, does the front passenger spin counter clockwise? If so that's part of having a differential.

its not suposed to spin freely when in gear. the rear is locked like its supposed to be and the front is like its in neutral.

I was thinking center diff also, looks like I will be tearing into the tranny. Any other opinions before i rip the tranny apart?
