Front wheel spinning(awd)?????

Viscous coupler in the transmission.

I had mine crack open. When I launched the fronts would spin a bit... for almost a second, then I could feel the rear kick..
It is the big round thing right at the end of the transmission. You can replace it with the transmission still in the car (Y).

Theres a picture of what mine looked like. The disks would still expand and push against each other on a hard launch to power the rear but under normal conditions, only the fronts will have power. If you gunned it on the ice, I bet the rear would have engaged a bit.

Yep, same thing happened to mine. The previous owner yanked the trans to fix it and found out later that he didn't have to. He didn't feel like working on it and put it up for sale.

Wait hold up, you can replace it without removing seriously? Just to clarify the Coupling is the same part as the center differential right? My passenger axle wont stay inside my tranny, I was told the coupling needed replacing and it woul cost 400+ so I was saving for a tranny. Is it really that easy to replace?

when you pull of the first half of the tranny. The piece closest to the pass side. This is where reverse and 5th are located along with the vc. Remove this piece of the tranny. Then you will see a round part. Its held on by a snap ring. Remove the snap ring and pull the vc off. Its that easy.

wow, and that would be the gears im having problems with. 5th pops out and reverse is relatively hard to get into to. Why would the ring not be there? I just replaced the axle 2 months ago, if the ring isnt there would that mean my coupling/center differential is bad?

No....

If your axle is popping out it sounds like you messed something up in the installation, it can't pop out unless the geometry is messed up or you got the wrong length axle.

Your VC is fine and has nothing to do with this, and same with your center diff.

After I replaced the passenger axle(had a mitsu mechanic do it) the car drove around ok for 1200 miles. Although it is a abs axle and I dont have abs, ive been told that it makes NO difference. It popped out again, thought it was the clutch and replaced the clutch/flywheel/master&slave/ and bleed the fluid. I also refilled the tranny oil... after abt a quart and a half the oil started coming out PROFUSELY(its still leaking while on a slop 4 days later) and the car drives exactly the same. Really not sure if its the tranny altogether that needs to be replaced, the center dif or the coupling..
