front mount size

ok its time to upgrade to a front mount and i was gonna go with the good old Ebay i/c. im gettin a sbr g series 50trim(not sure what cfm is), i was gonna get a 26W/14H/3D on a 2Ga bumper, now my question is will that be too big for the turbo also the area i have to mount it in. and i was going to go with 2.75in aluminium pipe.

It will be bigger than your opening in your bumper but you can either cut the bumper or get a 2gb bumper and headlights. Core should be fine for that size turbo.

There is no such thing as being to big for a turbo. Also why not just go 3 inch piping ? The Cfm is how much air it flows cant think of the exact wording. Like some flow around 550 or 600. Simply all it is though is airflow. I have a 17c which is much smaller than a 50 trim and im running 3inch cold side and 2.5 hotside with a front mount half of the intercooler is covered by the bumper. I can't remember the exact measurements but it flows damn nice. Also im only running 15psi. Couldn't complain.
I almost forgot we cut the bumper support except for the top where the bumper bolts on to fit it. here are pics i don't know if they will help any but maybe just to show u my custom setup. Sorry if pics are huge

nice setup and i like your color, yea i was planning on hackin my bumper and getting body work done to it so 2gb lights would fit right. thanks for the help

Very untrue. Ever try to spool a T25 or T28 on a big core. You can lose up to 500rpm of spool time unless you use about 2" intercooler piping. I have to go from 2.75" to 2" to get spool time back.

I think the largest most of us need is 2.5" IC piping. I believe 3" is too big unless you have a wild set up.

Agreed, but in this case, the 50 trim should work fine with the chosen ic and piping.

I very seriously doubt you will be able to fit a 14" tall core on the car without cutting the top of the bumper cover for it to stick up out of. Even with a 12" tall core, they sit dangerously low to the ground and are tucked up as tight as possible. The only place for the extra 2" to go is up.

Personally, I would just buy the ebay/xs power fmic which comes with a 28"x10.5"x3.5" bar and plate core and short route piping for less than most name brand cores. It should be more than enough for most street cars.

Of course an IC can be too big for a turbo, but if you match the CFM (which is cubic feet/minute wvturbo2 ) youll be ok.

As for tryin to fit a 14" core, 92awddsm is right again. Im fitting a 24x12x3 and I have to cut the bumper pretty good. I went further and fabbed up a new support for the top radiator support.

14" is just too tall. You REALLY have to cut the bumper to even get good air flow to the top 4" of that IC.

I should take a picture with my bumper off so you can see how high it goes up. I think mine might be 13" tall, maybe. I've only got a 17c at 15 psi and it pulls pretty damn hard. Big piping or not, It makes me hard Also, do you all think it would help if i cut my bumper to expose more of my front mount or not enough to really matter?

You probably have a 12" core. I have never seen anyone make a 13" core, usually just 12" or 14". Either way, I feel that an ic that big is overkill for such a small turbo. I personally only run a 24"x7.5"x3" core with a 60-1 and it works great. 26psi on pump gas and no knock so evidently, it does the job. I also have a friend that has maxxed out his 50trim(51.7 lb/min) at 27psi on pump gas with an aftermarket smic. With the results we have seen, neither of us would ever consider trying to fit a 14" core onto a car that has problems accepting a 12"core.

$100 for that front mount can't complain. Those pipes stay cold as piss, i love the look, and the change from a sidemount with a hole in it . I'm wanting to get my piping powder coated gunmetal to match the 2 tone. One day I'll upgrade my turbo, but im gonna bust this ones ass first. What turbo do you have ?

ive always wanted that obnyxous cutup front bumper with the big i/c so im prepared to cutt
and i found a new core at 24w/12h/3d 150 shipped and 3in inlet/outlet but im probbly going to get reducers to either 2.75 or 2.5hot side and 2.75 cold. now im stuck at aluminium or steel pipe?

I do have to agree though that there's no need to go for something huge on a medium sized or even some larger turbos. If my sidemount would handle a 35R without being a choke point, I'd continue to run it.

P.S. It was 51.2 lbs/min, but I like your numbers better!

Also, in that pic I posted, I cut up the support so I could tuck the IC closer to the car so I wouldnt have my IC hugging the front of my bumper. Youll notice the PS cooler/line is moved also, I bent some tubing to go in front of an oil cooler in the drivers side opening of the bumper.

I think running cooler, flowing smoother, and faster is a big advantage and it's one less thing to have to upgrade. I almost did a supra side mount, but i found a core for $100 so why not. As far as piping goes, if you can weld the aluminum definately do that. If not the steel piping works fine. If you look at my picture I'm running 3 inch steel piping cold side and 2.5 hot side. It's holding up great. Got a pretty good price from summit racing. For better results with the steel you should def go head and get it powder coated to protect it better.

im a big ebay freak so thats where its all coming from...but you can weld aluminium to steel right? any ways aluminum universal kits are running for around 130 shipped. if its not too much trouble to weld im going to get it.
