Lately I've been wanting somthing that spools quicker then my bp 57 trim, I hit 21psi@ 4500rpm which leaves me wishing I had some mid range power. I've read quite a bit about people using the holset hx35 and most seem to spool faster then mine and still have great top end power, I'm looking for opinions... would it be worth getting one? Thanks

Forgot to add, the reason this turbo appealed was due to the affordability and that it seemed to spool faster for people...

Your 57-trim likely uses a P-Trim turbine.....a wheel that is the size of a HX40 turbine wheel. Bullseye had a love affair with those giant turbine wheels for some reason- must have gotten a great deal on them or something. :p

So basically you have a compressor that is around the same size as a HX35 wheel paired to a HX40 turbine....it's no wonder you're looking for something that spools quicker.

I love my HX-35! I don't know what kind of airflow numbers the 57 trims is capable of, so I don't know how to compare directly. I will just tell you my experience with the HX-35.

I have a 7 blade in a .63 A/R 4 bolt T3 turbine housing on a T3 Turbonetics manifold, 2.5" tubular O2 housing & full 3" exhaust, JM Fab SMIM, 272 cams, +1mm valves.

I hit 36-37 psi by 4500 in 3rd gear and I log 53 lb/min. The airflow holds til I shift, which is 8k in 3rd, and 8500 in 1st and 2nd. I hit 21 psi by 4k. The boost drops about 5-6 psi cause of the insane exhaust back pressure at that boost. I am actually looking into upgrading the turbine housing again so the boost doesn't taper so much. It holds 32 psi all day long though.

On the FP exh mani, BEP bolt-on housing and stock IM, I hit 34-35 psi by 4k in 3rd gear.

Thanks for putting that up my1glaser. Thats informative. I was personally wondering where my turbo stood in comparison to an hx35. Im sure a different variations of the hx35 so its not a complete comparison. I hit my(max right now on pump gas) of 25 psi at around 4500 and see 51-53lbs/min.
Is that more comparable to an hx40? I would think i can hit 30+ psi and be in the 60lb mark but e85 or meth is a must. I gotta say, your spool times are nice. That is a solid powerband and probably alot less laggy than the OPs(and mine LOL). Youre def on e85 right?

60% E-85. Yeah its spools great! I can't really keep it out of boost unless I just barely press the gas. I have a few degrees of timing in the spool up area to increase spool speed.

It hits hard and fast and breaks sh_t! Peak torque is at about 5k. I'm not sure what everyone's experience with this turbo is, but I love it! I'm not in the 10s yet, but it is a perfect street turbo and makes me smile every time I hit full boost.

Im surprised at how much the hx35 makes, i know when i upgrade im going with either another pte(depending on how long this one lasts) probably a BB6766.... OOOOR a hx40 or even a 52. The 52 would be a shit ton of lag but i could still run pump and make over 500 i believe.

I forgot to add that my 70-90mph acceleration is 1.2 sec :D I have about 15 datalogs confirming it, so I am hoping for a better trip to the dragstrip next time!!! I think my slow shifting & shift points are keeping me from 10s...

I know of a HY35 user who has made 560whp on 93 octane pump fuel....and a HY35 is actually a shade smaller than a HX35. Why give up all of that lag for no reason at all?

What about an FP Green? I see a lot of good things about it. Anyone know when it would start to spool on a 2.3 stroker

Youre right. But that would assume i know how to tune!! haha. Im talkin shit right now. I still havent been to a dyno. Im flowing 53lbs now so i might be making over 400whp.
THis person making 560, did he by chance use meth spray?

Sounds like ill have to source one of these and a bep housing soon, I like the fact that their affordable yet take a beating. I just want somthing that spools faster, 4500rpm is just a little deeper then I would like my power for daily driving but maybe I'm just a whiner LOL

Thats amazing for an hy35. DAMN.... Hes running v2 so timing maps arent even available too! Just sliders. Maybe im better suited investing in a t3 mani and a SMIM. I think im at the level where it would really produce some good gains. This weather lately is lettin me put down some serious power, and a few tweaks to timing didnt hurt either. Fuel pump is takin a shit though so ill be tinkering some more next week. Think ill tune this to the best of my ability, then dyno it end of the month. and post up results.... good and bad LOL

So after riding in my buddies s13 with a blacktop sr20 (10psi on stock t28) I'm considering going even smaller, the low-end and mid-range power made resent my turbo that much more LOL ..I like the idea of an instaspool turbocharger. I've been reading and it looks like the evo3 16g mostly seems to fit the bill, I do have some questions about it though. My goals are 350whp and I have some supporting mods but I think ill be stretching the limits with the evo3 16g on pump gas. Anyways to my question... If I were able to make 350whp with that turbo would I be pushing it beyond it efficientcy range and how long could you expect a rebuilt one last pushing that much air? Thanks

I had an EvoIII 16g and I believe it hit full boost at 3300-3400 rpms. That was probably 25-26 psi back then. I switched to the FP18G6SL2 and it would hit 28 psi by 3800. I ended up disappointed with the 16g & 18g pretty quickly. When I switched to the HX-35, it actually spooled just as fast as the 18g if not a little faster when I was running 26-28 psi. I have been having a blast with the HX-35 for 2 years now and I'm still not bored with it. Just my .02 on the turbo choice.

The Evo 16g can hit 350 with a good tune on pump gas, but I would say that is pushing it for a normal tuner. I believe it can push about 42 lb/min IIRC.

The compressor map is in post 27. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/turbo-system-tech/235323-18g-ev0-3-battle-final-closure.html
