Hey guys, i have a 96gsx with a fp manifold and bolt on hx35. Im considering going with a different manifold, (not sure what kind) and a hx40. Thoughts or advice?

oh, well whats some hp rating on a setup as simple as 1g rods/2g pistons? Obviously its not as good as forged i assume but its better than stock LOL

See I would like to make a reliable engine. Parts that won't randomly break, so I don't have to worry about internals unless oil pump goes or something like that.

good stuff!!!

Curiosity is killin me. I'm trying to figure out which way is better/cheaper. Take my hx35,put a t3 exhaust housing and manifold on. (Sell my fp mani)..or sell my hx35 and mani and get hx40,t3 housing... So many decisions!

There's nothing cheap about a proper T3 setup. You'd be paying more for a manifold than some did for their car...

Which one is "better" is subjective. A number of people have made 500hp+ with a bolt-on HX40 and FP manifold, including myself. It'll still spool halfway decent for street driving and is considerably cheaper as well. But like mentioned, the problem you'll run into with the bolt-on housing is backpressure and EGT's. Not a big problem with a proper tune and supporting mods, but a downside nonetheless.

Right, well the back pressure and egt causes more strain on the engine, correct? For a street car I see this as being bad, from a reliability standpoint.

i would hope its not the end of the world.haha.. but i dont see the the point in making it harder on your motor when it can be easily fixed by a simple but pricey manifold/hot side.

To put it simply and reiterate what wes said: Backpressure is no good on turbos. You will be fine with a 55 bolt on housing, just dont expect to run as high boost(as easily) as a t3. Thats it, in a nutshell. Theres more to it but thats what you notice mainly.
Plenty of people have made a shit ton of whp on a dsm flanged turbos. If you want to upgrade for the future, get a t3 setup now. If you think you'll be happy in the 400-500whp range then a stock flange will work for you.
I think everyone would agree the t3 will leave you with better performance and a much bigger line up of turbos that you can run if you so choose, down the road. It boils down to money.

My bad Kyle, left the tab open too long, typed in late.

My memory is a bit foggy but I don't recall ever hearing anything bad about twinscroll 35/40's so I'm just making sure I didn't miss anything, as I have been planning to run an HX35 with the factory TS housing and buying the TS manifold.

So seeing someone spending 900 on something other than a TS manifold worries me -ie I haven't done enough reading on each design etc. I hate doing things twice because I missed something.

After having run several of each: MHI Bolt-on, Open T3, one Divided T3, Open T4, Divided T4..

I will only be running Divided T4 on future projects.

im sure i would be happy in the high 4s to500. I mean it will by a street car, sometimes il take it to the track but not often. So with that being said, my hx35 bolted on to the fp manifold running on 30psi. my tuner said he estimated it to be around 400ish hp. I cant see where I am going to get the rest of the power on this exact setup. Obviously im not going to with stock internals, but on my build engine that wont be an issue. Is this where head work/cams/vales ect. comes into play?

oh no. that stuff is unheard of around here:/ Im talking 93 pump gas. haha do have meth kit, but im not going to run it. dacowgod advised me against it due to possible failures.LOL

dacowgod is tuning me, so i assume he achieved knock free at 30psi. people say he is one of the best.

Great guy, helping me out all he can. i took him my car to just get a once over/tune. he let me know my wiring harness was hacked up, and found shavings in my oil:/ So he will be doing a used 1g engine swap into it for me. I plan to bring my old engine back and slowly build it. Never built one before but i have the right people around me to seek advice from.

Good attitude, and ricky is great! Hes just a busy guy ahha

thank you good sir, LOL yes tell me about it. I havent seen my eclipse in lets say... nearly 2 months. LOL it doesnt help that he is 4 hours away from me, or the fact my he has done everything to my car except clutch and tranny work. haha .. He prob hates that car, here is a list of everything he done so far: tear out engine harness, replace it with a new one, rewire my fuel pump, changed injections, changed turbo intake, new sd harness, new fuel pump assembly, Tuned the car, found shavings in the oil, now all he has to do is swap engines, fine check tuning, and tell me my car is ready:/ LOL

And buy an hx40 :thumb:

correct. LOL once i sell my meth kit, and hopefully get a good tax return. Right now i have to pay for an engine:/ haha. sucks.
