Hey guys, i have a 96gsx with a fp manifold and bolt on hx35. Im considering going with a different manifold, (not sure what kind) and a hx40. Thoughts or advice?

What are your goals a lot of us use the fp manifold with the holset, my friend dynode over 400 hp on his fp manifold and a hx35 tuned on sd and 3 e 85 I would keep the fp and spend money elsewhere

I want to make 450to525z anywhere around that on 93 pump. I hear the fp manifold with bolt on housing chokes the heck out of the turbo

Boils down to price if you want T3 like Urban said. The STM is a beauty, the ERL is bulletproof and a bit cheaper. The cheapest t3 mani i would think about is PR's 300 dollar mani. It has a WG provision. They also sell a nice one thats around $900. For $500 the ERL can be had and will flow all you could ever need out of a hx35 or 40. Has a nice wg location as well. Thats the one im going with when i go T3

If you want to stay with the bolt on bep then theres no reason whatsoever to get rid of the FP. Even a stock 2g mani ported out would do everything you need, but thats sbeside the point. Cant remember but there is a very nice dsm flanged tubular mani but its way over priced and i dont think you would see much, if any, gain by using it. After all, you would still be using the 55ar bep which is going to be the choke down on that setup.

My .02? Go T3

edit: Damn.......that stm IS sexy as all get out

Wow that STM is nice. I actually have a 1g engine, my bearings went out so I'm getting a 1g engine out in cause I got a good deal on one.

I rock the STM on my hx40 dont have a single complaint, cory bowers makes these

How does it all fit ? Any smashing, or cutting to cram the t3 and hx40 and wastegate

No it fits fuquing perfect. It was based around a 35r i had to get rid of my tial 38mm for a 44mm mvr cause with a vband adapter for my 38mm it went right into power steering. I got rid of that now anyway.

Bingo. The smaller housing is known for ending up with greater back-pressure than boost presssure and that's exactly what you wanna avoid. I recomend going with the larger housing and getting the matching mannifold. The T3 footprint .70ar housing definatley does justice over the MHI .55ar counter part

I agree and i had the .55 before my current .70

900 bucks says you know that is the exact manifold you want... envisioned it and found a company that makes such a thing.

With that in mind you must know a lot. So may I ask, why not twinscroll? It's a serious question, assuming you aren't filthy and foolishly rich :D

Me? My holset didnt come with a hot side.

I could make a top mount twin scroll t4 for my hx 52 though. I only bought the STM cause i wasnt comfortable designing a manifold at that point.

My bad Kyle, left the tab open too long, typed in late.

My memory is a bit foggy but I don't recall ever hearing anything bad about twinscroll 35/40's so I'm just making sure I didn't miss anything, as I have been planning to run an HX35 with the factory TS housing and buying the TS manifold.

So seeing someone spending 900 on something other than a TS manifold worries me -ie I haven't done enough reading on each design etc. I hate doing things twice because I missed something.

Talon dave runs open t3 .70 need i say more? Im a welder so i have options in the future.

He wasn't soliciting. He was telling me about how well he welds. I inquired about his skills, But il just pm him then LOL

Make the switch you will love it, I went from a bolt on hx35 on an SBR cast manifold to a 70A/R 56mm HX40 with the DNP t3 manifold, fits like a glove no denting or anything. Car recently went 10.4@135 at ~29-30psi, planning to make a few changes in the winter and see if I can get closer to the 9s on more boost and such.

Well back to the topic: how is your tranny holding up under those conditions? Do you run shep tranny, auto, or 5 speed with a beefy clutch?

Also in regards to 1g vs 2g 4g63 what up with people doing 1g rods,2g pistons? My 2g car will be recieving a donor engine from a 1g car, still will use my bolt on hx35 for the time being, but will the 1g engine handle power any differently? when I plan to build forged engine parts is it better to build a 1g or a 2g engine, i have some confusion on this, unless i just read inaccurate information.

If that question is directed at me, my transmission is holding up great. Its a faceplatted 5 speed transmission that I had the entire gearset shotpeened and I assemebled it all myself and set the preloads and such. Prior to this I had a stock engagement gear set that I had shotpeened as well by TRE, and assembled my self with tighter preloads I have launched ALOT on that trans, 20-22psi out the hole on the antilag on slicks no problems. That transmission is currently on my Galant now which is running a bolt on HX35 set up that I took off my talon.

For a clutch I run an ACT 2900 unsprung 6 puck with a fidanza flywheel.

The current engine in my talon is a bone stock 1G motor (1G rods 1G pistons), not sure on the mileage on it, I got it from a "JDM" dealer like 5 years ago, I personally have put 40-50,000miles on it when I had the hx35. Now the car just goes out on weekends and just to race it. Its like any motor tho if you have no idea what your doing you can #### an engine up on a 14B.

Well my previous setup was tuned at 30psi. How much more can a stock setup really handle "reliably" ( I use that word very lightly). If I changed to a t3 and kept the hx35 but put the t3 housing how does that affect anything ? In the future I will prob try to find someone to sell/trade me my fp mani and bolt on hx35 for another setup. But I plan to build the motor when that time comes. I would like to find some forged internals and some used cams decently priced. When the time comes I'm going for a true budget build, not "cheap" parts but cheaper parts than new LOL
