Currently i have an EVOIII 16G in my car... and every once in a while i will hear a noise like a Buzz Saw comming from the turbo... i checked it for shaft play and there is VERY LITTLE up and down movement, BUT you can take your fingers and pull the shaft in and out about 1/8 - 1/4 inch. I have never seen that before but im sure that it means that the turbo is shot. What i plan to do is get rid of this turbo because i really do not like it in the first place and replace it with a Percision/Garrett 57trim. I talked to extremepsi.com and they said it would be a good turbo for what i want. Does anyone have any information on Percision turbos ( are they good / reliable / powerful? ), and could somone tell me if the 650CC injectors im using now will be enouph to supply the engine with enouph fuel for this setup. The turbo is advertised to support up to 545hp, so im hopeing it will be a big difference over the 16G. I am looking to buy this turbo ASAP so help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Take a look at the compressor map for the 57 trim and the Evo 3. They are very similar in terms of overall flow. It wouldn't be much of an upgrade. The 50 trim flows more, is more efficient, spools the same, and makes more power.

The noise your hearing is most likely the compressor blades hitting the housing...precision is a good name...if its not a ball bearing then the only thing you will suffer is spool up...and the 650's you have will not be able to maximize that turbo without running out of duty cycle...

spool up is going to be a little longer on a 50 trim than a 16g if its a journal bearing

i just checked garretts website and they say that the 57 trim is rated up to 545HP and the 50trims are 450HP so i dont see how the 50trim would make more power, or how it would not be a big difference going from the EVOIII 16G ( rated only at 380HP ) to the bigger 57trim.... if im wrong could somone please explain?....

I was referring to the 50 trim and the 57 trim spool differences.

http://turboneticsinc.com/cm_e50.htm See how the 50 trim flows 49 lbs/min?

The Evo 3 16g can make a hell of a lot more than 380hp. There ae guys on this site that have made over 400whp on the Evo 3.

Trim isn't an indicator of wheel size. It's a ratio between the inducer and exducer of the wheel(s).

Garrett doesn't list the 57 trim on their website, so where were you looking?
