lost too much oil overnight ?
Have you checked for puddles.
Is there oil pressure?

Otherwise timing belt has slipped because it wasn't tensioned properly.

oil pressure is fine, no leaks. checked the belt, timed perfect. started it up a minute ago and didnt sound good, a lot of head knock. i am stumped as well as my 16 year mitsu mechanic friend. thanks.

checked timing again, it is slightly off; maybe one notch. going to check/fix it here in the next few days. just hope that is all the problem is.
