Found car! Is this a good deal? Please read and respond!

OK, next weekend I am moving to Charlotte, North Carolina and I am looking for a car, a 2g DSM in particular. I been searching autotrader.com and I finally found one that I am happy with. Can you tell me if this is a good deal? I have seen these all over the place and I have seen the same car locally for sale, but it was $14,500. That was way expensive for a first car. And i cannot have a turbo, and seeing that my dad is paying for car, he wants me to have an Automatic for just getting used to driving and for the heavy traffic that Charlotte will have. I want a 5 speed, but i can't talk him into buying one. So, i cant complain, cause i mean hes buying me a car. So, tell me what you think. It's a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Limited Edition, Automatic, 83,353 miles, and its Black.

Its alright man. I can be an ass too. But what i meant by over rated is, that everyone that has one thinks they are superior to everyone else. And they think the little honda civic is faster than any car out there. Thats what i meant. I cant bash dependability on Hondas.

Do you have manual or automatic? 127hp may not seem like much, but power-to-weight ratio is the key. I've seen a manual 4cylinder Probe (which is only about 116hp) keep up with an auto Eclipse.

I was on autotrader.com last night and I found the Eclipse again. This week, he dropped the price from $8,567 to $8,188!!!!! Thats an awesome deal. I really hope my dad likes this car when we go look at it. Today, he was looking at loan information, so I might be a step closer!!!

-dsm speed great/performance is worlds worst
-honda speed not so great/performance...well lets just say that itll get you around forever driven under normal sitiuations so give the honda guys a break if they were about speed you would find alot more fast ass hondas out there but they arent bout that, they are originally a performance machine company, made for the common familly man that could use good gas and comfort ride...so if you need someone to rag on get those bastards that exploit the "import" scene those ones behind the set of "car" movies and those ones that use everything they possibly can to earn an easy buck or two through moronic kids...i garuntee that any honda will out last these cars/mached up on the strip though well thats another story

Blah Blah Blah! Dude, read the topic of this post. All i asked for was opinions on the car I am looking at and i get a bunch of this Honda bull shit. I dont care about Hondas, I am asking for honest opinions on whether or not I am making a good choice. Honda's can be talked about in a different post. I dont want this shit closed, i need some real honest opinions on whether or not i made the good decision.

I would say it's a ripoff just because you're buying it from a dealer.

i can't stand used car dealerships. they're without a doubt some of the worst places to buy a car from.

most of them cover up alot of problems and try to sell the car off as excellent condition.

btw i wouldnt rely on carfax. my car was in two accidents before i bought it(and 1 since i have owned it) and carfax doesnt list a single one of them...

and car dealerships are expensive pricewise too. im sure you can find a nicer eclipse for alot less from a private owner. that whole "i looked for a year and this is the nicest a found" is the typical bullshit excuse people use when they want something bad and will overlook all the facts.

trust me, i did it and am regretting it till this day still.

tell your dad to buy you a piece of shit to beat for a year or so, and give you the rest to save and buy that eclipse once you learn how to drive.

but what i wanted to get at was the fact that all those ppl and your racing experience with a honda and all that it just pushed me over the edge and im sorry if i offended you but the fact of the matter is, is that we all need to realize that anyone and everyone who has or drives a car out there deserve repsect, until they vialate there privillages, granted that all that^ is off the topic.

Erm.........no! My dad wont let me get a job and there is no way in hell i could afford turbo, so thats out of the question.

And hell no, i am not getting a peice of shit car. This is my last year of high school and i want my car to last through college.

And the "I have been looking for a year and this is one of the nicest.." is NOT bull shit. I am not even kidding you. Where i live, Eclipses are not taken care of and people shit all over their cars. Thats why i liked this one. I know to expect problems, but thats also a reason we are going to look at it and test drive before we make final decision.

honestly dude, i think itll last you for a good deal of time, due to the fact that it is slow as hell. what im sayin is look at cars that are "import" and that are slow, they will last. and the fact that its not a forced induction car it should hold up very well for a dsm. dont expect anything horrable though like c/w or nothin

How do you know the car is good?

you havent even seen the thing in person yet..

i wish i could look at a picture and automatically assume the car is in great shape and will last me a long time.


i'm telling you, you won't want this car a couple months after you buy it. you're gonna hate automatic and want 5-spd, and you're gonna want something faster eventually.

when i first went car shopping with my parents, i fell in love with this 97 eclipse gs, 5spd. the thing was PERFECT to me. paint was glossy, interior had no fading or rips.

so the dealer let me drive it to my mechanic to get it looked at. turns out the thing was hit on both sides and had a bent frame. the engine also had problems. looks can be extremely decieving, especially when it comes to cars.

btw, why won't a "shit" car last through college? by shit i dont mean destroyed engine. i mean a car that isnt visually appealing, etc.

most college kids drive "beater" cars because they save their money for bigger, better things when they finally get out.

sorry, but i doubt that eclipse will last through college without eventually needing a new tranny/engine.

Sounds like you have made up your mind on this car. If its so cherry why then did the dealership drop the price after a week? I would be very carefull and check it out throughly. as for having auto...mine's a auto and I haven't had any real problems, yeah my launch isn't the fastest. but I don't drag race. If this is the car you want, you'll find lots of reasons to get it. But please go over it with a fine tooth comb...anything that looks funny...get it fixed prior to purchase or have them not big money off the car.

The price didnt drop after a week, the price droped a week after i first saw the car. I will definately look at every detail before purchasing, which my dad will do also. He knows cars, in and out. So i dont have to worry about much. Thanks for the reply. And yes, i am set on Automatic for now.

and overrated how? i gauarantee you that any honda engine will outlast a mitsubishi engine if both were equally well treated and i gauarntee you there insurance is way less... i also gaurantee that you are way wrong on your biased of civics... even a bone stock civic ex would prolly smoke you in a race with ur 99 auto "neon in heavily wieghted, but nonethelless good looking sheeps clothing"... actually dude if you have that much money that ur dad is willing to spend on a non-turbo a/t car then id say despite my own personal love of dsm's that you should consider somthing else..id go with a teggy gs-r personally but then again ur whole thing with hondas... and really though you should atleast convince ur dad to let you have a m/t car there much funner and will give you more of the sense that ur controlling ur car and no sports car should be auto.... thats for rich snobs with those ### ass jaguars they get just to prove there better than other less wealthy people...

I say overrated because people who have Hondas think they are better than everyone else and that they have the fastest car after they put an exhaust tip on and altezzas. I do not like the look of the Honda's except for s2000 and prelude. And i cannot have a m/t, its out of the question. heavy traffic+first time driving=hard time. I want m/t, but i cant have it. I just dont like hondas, my opinion. Shoot me if you dont like it. And for the auto on a sports car? BS! My dad has a 2001 Pontiac Trans Am Ram Air WS 6 Auto and that thing will FLY!!! He has beat mustang after mustang with 5-speeds. It dont matter to me, a car is a car. And no, i dont want another car. I am stuck on an Eclipse, and thats what i think.
