Ok theres a guy at work that is selling his svt 03 cobra wheels for 100 a wheel. The specs that I could get are 17*9 and the lug pattern I believe is the same(I measured a 02 cobra and it matched my dsm's). What Im asking is will these wheels fit on my 95 gst...I have no idea what the offset is but I can get these wheels for 1/3 the price. Is it possible and is there anyopne out there who is running 9 in wide wheels.
Andrew

It depends on what you mean by fit. Mustang wheels typically have much less offset. That combined with the 9 inch width would make your car look like a roller skate.

I would think Mustang's would roll by you and just laugh, might not be such a great idea. Just my opinion.

Ok so evertime you see a dsm on 5 spoke wheels youll laugh?? All they are are 5 spoke wheel they dont have a pony or and ford emblem on them. How is anyone going to know if they are fords??? I bet if I drove to your house with them on you would nt even know. Thanks wret for the repsonse. What is the widest any dsm has ever used?
Andrew

The widest practical width tire is probably 235 or 245. I say practical because any more tire wouldn’t fit under the wheel well. That said, 245’s will probably fit nicely on a 9 inch wheel. But to remain practical, you need as much offset as possible without rubbing, and therein lies the problem. You would need to look for a wheel with offset in the 40mm ballpark. Mustang offset usually runs in the 20’s, I believe. You can create less offset with spacers but you can’t correct for too little offset. So those wheels would protrude from under your fenders, not to mention causing premature bearing wear.

Haha, wanna bet. I'd be like look at that dsm with mustang rims, haha

I'm not sure if I'd laugh if I saw a 2G on Mustang wheels. For one thing, I'd be impressed that the owner knew enough to run wheels that were wide enough for his tires, such that he was getting the most out of the rubber under his car. For another thing, my sides might still be hurting from laughing at the guy with lowering springs, a 3" exhaust, and stock swirlies.

And the point would be......oh i guess you made fun of more than 50% of this forum. If you don't have a good come back that your not even involved in, then don't say anything at all. DUMBASS

On bended keyboard, I apologize. I did not know that I was talking to the grand marquis of DSM style. When I saw you laughing at someone else's car (even though his ideas made more sense than most, given that he was looking for cheap performance, instead of cheap looks), I thought that this meant that you would welcome a little of the same back at you. I did not know that you were actually selflessly teaching the masses what does and what doesn't look good.

I'll have a set of 6"-wide swirlies on my car by Monday. Promise.

He runs 17x9.5 I believe. It's an auto x car and the tires stick out a little, but he runs 275s. I think with some subtle fender flares it would be bad ass for an awd car.

One other point about Dennis Grant's car that people might want to consider before running 275s on the street: he has 900# front springs.

If you have health insurance that covers dental work, this might be a cool street set-up. Otherwise, I'd leave that kind of thing to the trailer queens.

I was thinking of running 245 45 r17 but the guy who owns em says they come stock with 255s...I figure worse case scenario I could sell them for 200 a piece and buy others. The whole reason Im looking for these is the only other alternative is 17*7s for 10 bucks a wheel more and I could maybe squeeze 225s on there, but those wont be enough for all thetorque a b16g will laydown. I didnt want to start a flame war all I wanted to know if they would fit I was going to get prokit springs and adjustable shocks because mine are shot. Thanks for the positve responses guys. I know you are pretty educated on suspension jtmcinder...enlighten me if you would as Im a engine and trans guy at work. Thanks
Andrew

There are some guys running 17x9 Cobra wheels with 255s, but this is on dedicated road-racing cars. For a 2G car that sees the street and, therefore, sees potholes big enough to make the wheels tuck up into the wheel wells, I strongly suggest 245/40/17s on 17x8 +40mm wheels. With a rolled rear fender lip, these do tuck in and this is a lot of rubber. To be specific, I'd suggest Kumho MXs. These stand up to heat better than Azenis and have decent wet grip. They are extremely popular with autoXers who run in the street-tire classes.

Who cares what they look like, IMO. Look for light, strong, and inexpensive.

Ok heres the update I found out that a friend at school has 17*8s with rubber on them and he might be willing to trade for the 17*9s. Well anyways Im going to bolt one up and see how it works.

I asked the same thing about a year ago, but decided against for all the same reasons (logical, not smart ass ones) that are listed in your thread. I went with G-racing Mito's, similar style, but fit the car great:thumb: For $100 per wheel, you could always buy em and see what they look like. If they're too big, you could resell them for more;)

Exactly what I was thinking...if they dont fit I can always sell em for twice what I paid for them. Im not really going for looks Im just going for the rubber...looks are a by-product.

Ok I tried on the I think are 17*9s and they only stick out like 1/4 -1/2 of an inch they also go a tiny bit deeper inside so Im not going to have to worry about bearing wear. I lowered the car with full wieght and turned it from lock to lock and it doesnt hit anything at all!! doesnt rub at all and they look great. I might try them for a bit and see how they workout, because the tread is amost twice as wide as what I have on there now(p205 55r16).

Im glad you got them I bet they look good. My buddy has a simalar 5 spoke design on his 92 talon and they look really good IMO.

when I pick up the wheels and pay for them I will get pics. But until then Im still pn then swirllies. Im thinking about going for em cause of the major differenc in grip they will give me.

What size tires did you put on? Do you know the offset of those wheels?

I want to go from 235/45-17 17x8 40offset to 245/45-17 17x9 35offset and am having a whore of a time figuring out if the 9" wide wheels will make the tires too big to fit on the rear of a 2G (rub suspension). I might have to get 235/40-17 (if those will even fit) but cant find the proper info how much 1" larger wheels will make the sidewalls go outbound and the tread go outbound.
