For people with those HALO lights, did yours go out?

for those with aftermarket projector halo lights.. all kinds (yes there are different styles)..

i noticed with all of them one or both of the HALO lights will go out sooner or later. 3 different people I know with them, just goes out with time..

they all have it tapped with the side markers.

is this problem by design or because tapping to side markers is bad. and they aren't easily replaced, they just short out.

any others who had similar problems, if so how long until you noticed yours went out?

there is no easy way to change it, you would have to open up the entire housing.

the big problem seems to be the halos in them do not last long. few months from what i've witnessed from 3 separate vehicles. how bout yours?

There are the more expensive ones saying CCFL, does anybody have these that has lasted over a year?

yea thats what i heard, i just want to get a rough idea for those with the standard ones if all seem to go out after a few months.. it must be something doing it. i know in alarm installs you can't just tap 2 sirens without running a relay..

perhaps same goes for the halos.. something is shorting them out quick.

I actually have a set in the mail now for the 2gb conversion.
I'll let you know in a year.

The CCFL looked more promising..

The problem is simply that the manufacturers are using cheap LEDs and they "push" them too far considering they are inside a headlight that stays quite warm. Heat kills LEDs.

If yours are burnt out you must bake the headlight and open them up to replace the LEDs. There are two for each halo and even though only one will be bad it would be silly not to replace both.

For those with halos still working it would be wise to install a small resistor inline with either the pos. or neg. lead to dim them down a bit and maybe they will last longer.

I have a brand new set of halos removed from a current project sitting on my bench right now. If people are interested I'll test them and recommend what size resistor would help the longevity issue.

I've had mine in for at least a year, still lighting bright as new!
But of course I'm in Alaska and they don't get hot, like Azdave said.

I plan on making some sort of switch in the car where the ring is on its own so i can have it on whenever i want.

I have a set of ebay halos in my civic. And no I didnt put them in there, the guy I bought it from did. The car was wrecked in the front so thats why he went with the ebay halos. He drove the car with them in it for about 8 months and then I bought it and I have been driving it for about 14 months. So thats almost 2 years and they are still working. I'm not sure how he has them wired up, I've never payed attention. But that same guy put ebay halos in his CRX and one of them went out within a few months I think. Maybe I just lucked up and got a good namebrand set or something.

You can't simply swap red LEDs into where white used to be. White LEDs operate at a different forward voltage (higher) than red LEDs. If you just soldered in some red LEDs they would be really bright for a few moments and probably burn out. The resistors used for the white LEDs would need to be increased in value to make it work. Those resistor values are based upon the LEDs you use. There is a little learning curve to work with LEDs but there is lots of help on the web.

I'm not into the halos but since I remove them all the time or fix them for others I know about the LED style. I've never owned or opened any aftermarket Eclipse CCFL halos so I'm not much help there with tips.

When I was doing research on them, I found that the better reviews came from the CCFL. I also was told that the LED halo's weren't very bright at all. Thanks for the help anyway.

My GSX wouldn't be able to rock them. I like the way she looks right now...

sense my last 2g didn't have fog lights, the halos were tapped into the fog light plugs. thus they could be turned off or on with the fog light switch haha thats probably why theyve lasted 3 years haha cus theyr not always on!

Oh shoot, why didn't I think of that..

When I use to wire them up for people i just tapped them into the parking lights, so it looks "cool" at dusk when the headlights dont have to be on, so you just see the halo.

not that legality seems to be a big deal around here...

but any color lights in the front half of the car other then yellow-white , blue-white, or amber is illegal. red can only be used on tail lights.

i have halo. about 2 years old now (since previous owner put them in), still going strong.
