Holy man thanks for the fast reply :D now i just got to find a oem plug end and check the aftermarket layout
If any one has a spare let me know
Also what book is this

So I got the whole harness routed and wired in and did a test with the garbage aftermarket button. Shortly after I found a OEM button with a plug for sale its on the way but before it gets here I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to wire it so the light on the button turns on only when lights are active and stays off when inactive to avoid battery drain when the car goes to storage or is not in use.

I don't have a 2G but it sure looks like the button light is only on when the taillights are turned on.

The power for the light comes from the taillight relay through fuse #5 to the light and then I assume to ground but that isn't shown on those two pages. You should download the manual and look.

So the original wiring layout wont be working the same as i want to reconnect it to an aftermarket harness thats just wired to the battery im just looking to see if its possible to wire the oem button to work this way with and aftermarket harness

If I understand you correctly, you want the factory button to turn on your custom wired harness? If so, I have been working on a similar situation using my factory fog lamp button to switch a different accessory.

The harness has 4 wires. 2 belong to the button illumination that comes on when your headlamps are active (black/yellow stripe & green/white stripe). The other two are switching the fogs, which are on the center two on the bottom row (green/light blue stripe & green/black stripe). The center two pins show continuity when the switch is pressed in and break when turned off.

I de-pinned the green/light blue stripe & green/black striped wires from the lower end of the dash connector and added my own two in deutsch connector. One to 12v acc and the other to my accessory.

I do not know the rated ampacity of the switch, so I recommend you use the switch as a signal only for a relay. I haven't fully completed my project yet, so it hasn't been tested. The dash should be going back in the car within the next few days so I'll say something if it ends up not working out.

So i ended up getting the plug for thebfog light and wired it up as suggested the only thing that sucks about the direct wire to the battery is that the light inside will stay on even when the fog lights are off i just took out the light since its not really a big deal but if you know of a way to make it trigger on activation that would be nice

Let me know how the dash install went @steve-o_95_GST

The light is wired from the factory to illuminate when the headlights are turned on. The two wires that illuminate the bulb run down to the dial that controls the instrument cluster brightness, where it looks like you have installed a switch labeled "DRL" If there is anything left of the dimmer circuit, you can tie into that. Otherwise you could wire the bulb into the switched side of the circuit you wired up for your fog lamps.

My install went according to plan. I used the switch to trigger the 12v acc reference to excite the Prius electric power steering module. My switch is still illuminated as factory and I did not modify the button illumination.

Yeah that soumds like a good idea ill look into that (also all wires im tapping into are spare plugs/wires my original harness behind the dash has no splices or cuts )

Ill explore more options for fog button the illumination soon since im waiting for some parts for the cluster and need to add a new dimer knob

Glad the install went good though thanks for all the assistance
