I've searched but most topics are about getting one, nobody really says at what point you need one. Any suggestions?

It's a relative answer. Some will tell you before a certain hp and some will tell you after.
I would say anytime. Considering you are on a small turbo, if you're still stock, you can get a decently-sized core and run good. This will help keep your intake temps down and help your car perform slightly better.
It really all depends on the turbo that you have to correctly match a proper sized fmic for it.

Really its whenever you start heat soaking your setup with any decent amount of boost....im running about 20 psi on a 57 trim garret with 550's etc etc with factory sidemount and with my upper intercooler pipe insulated it doesnt heat soak unless i stay in it past 110....gotta leave some time in between pulls though My butt dyno tells me my setup is somewhere close to 300 (give or take). I can tell you I am not going further without installing my frount mount thats been waiting to go on.

Just like stated it really is relative whenever YOU decide you need a front mount....just the gains netted wont be substantial till you reach that certain point.

I don't think I need one at this point then. Just purchased this 1g and when doing a boost leak test found my stock IC has bb size holes in the pipe. JB weld is holding it for now, I'll just go get a junkyard IC for 40. I will be putting in some larger injectors, and exhaust and maybe run 15psi.
