Floating The Gears

Anybody shift their DSM's without the clutch? With all the prevailing clutch/tranny issues most of these cars have, I'd be very cautious. Still, shifting in town sure gets to be a chore. I can float the gears on a class 8 semi-truck, but I'm not sure where the rpm split would be on my Talon.

I'm no transmission expert but I'm pretty sure the tolerances in a semi and a sports car transmission are very different and this shouldn't be done.

semis have no sychros and from what I am understand it is hard ont he sychros in are cars

I have done it a few times, but I still would rather to shift with the clutch.

All you have to do is in second, when you go to shift, let off the gas, and pull back with a small amount of pressure until it clicks in.

But simply, just dont do it....If your really lazy or used to a semi, drive an automatic Minivan.

Shifting without the clutch is called Revmatching. Revmatching is when YOU do what the syncros are trying to do: match engine rpms with gear rpms. If YOU do it, you guessed it, the syncros wont get nearly as much abuse because they won't have nearly as much work to brake gears to match rpms.
