Flat Valve Cover

I want to make the top of my valve cover perfectly flat. Think it would be ok if I cut off the lettering and then maybe smoothed it out with bondo and some sandpaper? I just don't want to ruin anything. Know if this will work?

look in the classified if you just want to buy one and if not you can sand it all down and polish it but dont use bondo one your valve cover it would crack in a heart beat

Yeah no bondo.It would get too hot.Take a grinder to the letters but be very carful you dont grind too far then sand untin you get to a very fine sandpaper.

Have a shop shave the VC for you. They just grind the lettering off and it looks really good. Probably something you don't want to do yourself just in case you go too far when grinding and ruin a perfectly good VC.

I suggest you powdercoat your VC after you get it shaved. Mine used to look identical to^ that polished one. It is a complete pain in the dick to keep polished and totally not worth the hassle.

I just run some aluminum polish wadding over it once a month...makes it look like chrome again in 2 minutes!

Isn't there a flat cover that came stock on Hyundais with the 4g63? Maybe you could find one of those cheap and save yourself some work.

Only the top of it is flat you would still have to shave the bottom part.

i'm using a dremel and a router tool that you can buy and it cuts like butter, then using the 80 grit sand paper that you can also buy for dremels to smooth it out more then off to Powdercoat..i guess i can take some pics of the process and tools
