Flash's Summer Build Thread

I just had to post this picture up. I thought the welds were very deserving of the attention. Since I switched to air-cooled oil, I had the holes on the front water pipe welded shut that would have otherwise gone to the oil filter housing, no JB Weld here. Longevity and quality are always a priority of mine.

Ummm... I thought my Shearer manifold looked crappy, must be my computer screen. Yea, that's it!

I give it 3 months before that magnus crap cracks.

I've seen Flash's car in real life (c'mon, I was in Colorado visiting my dad, I had to stop by and see my car's sexier twin while I was there) and all I have to say is... Photoshop really works wonders. Its such a piece of shit in person I couldn't believe it....

ROFL

sorry I had to. Seriously this car is immaculate in person.. It looks like it's never ever been driven before. Oh wait..

Oh and Grant I love Sonic drive-in. And tell your dad thanks for inventing popcorn chicken... its my life

oh and sorry for the waste of a post

BTW don't forget: it's pronounced Soo-nami not Tiss-you-nami. And Soo-ku-ba Circuit not Tiss-oo-koo-ba Ill never forget that

Just thought I would post another updated picture. It was a nice rainy evening, so I thought I would test fit the fuel filter, fpr and lines. I got new Russell endura fittings with Earl's pro-lite line to replace most of my other fittings and line. I also have been re-wrapping my wires with this nice wire loom, I've been impressed with this stuff so far.

That looks very nice. Good job!! Hey where did you get your VOLK RE30's? I want a nice rim for my talon awd and i love the way those look.

What kind of wire loom?

Here's what you need:
JEGS Self Fusing Silicon Tape - JEGS

JEGS Flexbraid Wire Cover - JEGS
I think it is really nice stuff, from the description it is can withstand heat better then the cheap plastic tubing. Also get that self-fusion tape. That stuff is crazy weird. It's not sticky or messy at all. You wrap what you need and let it set over night and it forms a pretty much permanent bond with itself. It won't stick to anything else but itself.

I ordered them from VividRacing.com

Quick video of my Stack dash display.
Sorry for the poor quality, I was using my phone.

Very nice build. Makes me want to pay even more attention to detail on my own car as I am putting it back together. Thanks for the inspiration :D

Thank you, no problem.
Nice build so far.

Thanks!

Today I decided I was going to pull the nipple out and thread it. I'm still trying to decide if I want to mount my Stack coolant temp sensor in that hole.

My new Sparco quick-release steering hub arrived along with a new steering wheel.

Sparco 345 steering wheel. I'm a bit skeptical about the suede, but I'll try it. Coupled with the Sparco quick-release this steering wheel is a lot closer to my body for a more comfortable position. From test fits it seems that my knees also clear it.

I converter my vacuum line on my Tial BOV to 4AN. No particular reason, just wanted to try something different.

Some people expressed interest in some pictures of my car.

I believe I was one of those "people". :)

I've been subscribed to your thread since you started but this is my first post in it. I just have to say that your attention to detail is off the charts and your love for parts that the "normal" dsm'er wouldn't buy is something that sets your car apart from a lot us. Keep up the good work man. :thumb:

+1, I also admire Grant's work because it definitely goes above and beyond the 'norm'.

Grant, I dont know if that would be the best place to mount the sensor. You wont really be able to "watch" your car warm up. It will be reading very low until the thermostat opens up and then all the sudden it will climb. Also, if your thermostat ever got stuck and your car began to overheat you wouldnt find out until its to late. Your temp reading would be low because the sensor will just be sitting there in uncirculated coolant. Ideally you want the temp sensor mounted somewhere below the thermostat - like the stock sensor.

Thank you. I definitely don't come up with these idea's or inspiration out of the thin air here. I have buddies such as Roast Beef and others that exchange feedback and push each other. When I tell someone on the forums that their work looks bad, it is some of same valuable feedback I sometimes get from my own good friends. I then go back and redo it, in essence it pushes me and my abilities.

Thanks, I was planning to mount it lower, then this opportunity opened up for me to literally just screw it in for a clean install with easy access (if I ever had to mess with it there would be little chance of me burning my hands).

Amazing work, Hope to see some pics of your car were it belongs, At the track kicking some butt.
