I bought 1990 Eagle Talon TSI AWD and started repairs and eventually got it running and idling on it's own. I rebuilt the entire fuel system and converted to -6 with afpr and have set at 38 psi. I have 1 quart of marvel mystery oil in the fuel tank with 8.5 gallons of gas. I noticed on free revs when boost comes in dark black smoke is coming out the exhaust. Is this smoke because of the marvel mystery oil? Engine has 99k on it and is all original besides fuel system and the pump is 255lph .

idle fuel pressure with stock injectors should 27-33 psi depending ifs it auto or manual (manual 27psi) revving it should bring it to 38psi (off vacuum).
Are the injectors stock?
Is the fuel pressure maintaining 38 psi when revving?

If they are not stock injectors and you have the fuel system upgraded with stock ECM then yes fuel will come out the tailpipe

Everything is stock aside from fuel system. Also stock fuel psi is 37.5 for my car which is a manual transmission AWD, according to Mitsubishi. It maintains 37.5-38 psi at idle all day. On revving engine the psi increases depending on throttle position and seen a max psi of 52 at wot. It sat for 20 years and a chance that the exhaust valve seals are worn out? I'm going to finish the oil mixture of fuel I'm using now, used to lubricate fuel system and decarbon Pistons. And after another full tank of all fuel no oil I will report back

It's definitely possible that the valve stem seals are bad. But you're saying it's black smoke coming out of the tailpipe. Burnt engine oil will be more grey or a grey with blueish tint.

This is the fuel pressure spec for 2.0 turbo manual at idle with vacuum hose connected. It is 27psi.. no vacuum hose =38psi

That's interesting. Where did you find those specs/procedure, I want to be as close to OEM as possible while I work out the bugs. I don't want to hurt it....yet.

Black smoke is gasoline smoke -- so much gas that there's not enough air to burn it all and you get carbon particles. The easiest way I can think of for that to happen is one or more stuck open fuel injectors. Cars that sit get bad injectors as a matter of routine and it's especially bad if they sit with E-xx fuel in them -- water and aluminum (fuel rail) and time. I'd try one or more of the following:

1. Listening to the injector clicks with a screwriver with the butt end on your ear and the tip on each injector in turn. A stuck injector probably will sound different.

2. Substituting the whole lot with a known good set if you have them.

3. There are instructions in one of the 'car won't start' troubleshooting threads on pulling off your fuel rail with injectors in it and watching the sprays as you crank -- do that outdoors since there's pretty much fire hazard at best.

You say you 'rebuilt the fuel system' but if an injector is now the problem I would remove and flush/wipe out the rail and replace the injectors even if you've already done that. Getting rid of problems caused by moisture in fuel and sitting a long time can take a while.

Did you clean or at least inspect the tank? It has an anti-rust coating but I wouldn't bet it was guaranteed for 30 years. Yes there's a strainer on the pump and the fuel filter, plus strainers in each injector, but If you have a bad injector I would replace the fuel filter and replace all the injectors.

Problems like this are the reason that 'normal people' don't like to drive old cars! But no one here scores as normal, so ...

I set base FP at 43.5 and tune from there. It is a standard setting when tuning.

This is the 91 Eagle talon service manual. 90-94 fuel specs are all the same. The 1.8l is 38 idle
