Firewall holes? [Merged] drill, drilling, pass-thru, wire, gauge, power, passenger

I have a 96 Eclipse GS which I am wanting to mod. I am wanting to know where and how to come though the wire wall at. Everything is so jumbled up under the hood I dont know where to go and when I look in the interior I dont know where to go either. I am wanting to put a couple things though like a 4gauge power wire and a A/F gauge wire for the O2 senson wire and also tubing for my Greddy Profec B boost controller so I need quite a bit of space. I really need help and any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

have you looked at the firewall from the inside? if so you can't miss the gromats(sp) there. to help you a little more: passenger side has one and if you follow the stearing column(thats the long round thing that turns the car :thumb: ) you will find a double sided gromat.

There is plenty of space for wires already pre-cut. If you need more, just find a good place that keeps it nice and clean.

Hi i am having a big problem finding a hole or opening to string my boost gauge tubing through the firewall, can you guys tell me how you have yours done? and if anybody has done it without drilling out a hole, i would rather not?
thanks

Poke a hole in the rubber gromet where the steering rack goes through.

This is your easiest way of running the line. Just poke a hole and feed the line through with a coat hanger or something.

i ran mine through the speedo cable grommet, look behine the brake master cylinder on the firewall, and make a little slit in the grommet, that hole is actually really big, so i have my boost tube, some wires for my volt meter(yea, its coming out soon), and my soon to be egt gauge wires, and it fits smoothly.

Alternatively, you can also drill (from the inside of the car) a hole in the firewall about 1-1.5" above the throttle cable... There's enough room there to run a 4AWG wire through the firewall. Just use a plastic grommet when running wire/vaccum lines through the firewall and be sure to route the wire/hose away from the rest of the throttle linkage once you have ran it.

The way did it was dill a 1/2" hole through the firewall just to the left of the steering column pass through, put a grommet in it and ran the line up the steering coloumn.

I've searched and found that for some reason most people have a hole where i have a bolt that supports the HVAC system on the firewall.

I need to stuff a bunch of wires through the firewall, (figure at least 3/4 inch hole) and I'm not sure where to put them through. I've removed the A/C however; i don't really want to remove the entire HVAC system...

Is it possible to remove the A/C piece that goes through the firewall (aluminum piece) and put wires through there? Has anyone else found a solution to this problem?

what is a good hole in the fire wall to run amp power cables through, any one have any pictures?

there's one on the right side kind of behind the glove box that all the wires run through. it has a rubber boot that you drill into. You can also drill a hole anywhere you want basically. Cover it with silicon to prevent anything entering if you want.

there are several larger boots. One thing to keep in mind. DO NOT DRILL THE BOOT. just poke thru it carefully. The on the passanger side that the first post refures to has a large harness that is usually twised weird. You dont want to cause a intermittant electrical problem diong this. Also just to the right (passanger side) of that hole you will see a weld. that is as far right as you can do if you decide to drill your own hole. They sell nice rubber grommets at most harware store that will do a better job protecting the wire the silicon that to keep water out

Is there an easy way to wire through the firewall. I've looked at it before and it looks like a nightmare. Any advice?

make a little slit in the steering column boot and there you go. That is probably the easiest, I believe I found a little hole in my 2g TSI by the steering column boot that I actually used to run wire and vaccum hose and stuff. Does any of this make sense?

on my 96 tsi there is a rubber boot that goes through the firewall right behind were the battery sits( a little lower actually), i was ablie to push a wire through it, after I punched a small hole through the boot.

Making a slit in the steering column boot doesnt explain to be how that wires gonna get to the battery. Is there any access to push the wire through to the other side? As for the rubber boot behind the battery, thats what I used to looking at. I know that you can push a wire through that and it comes out at the corner on the passenger side of the car (under the glove compartment, by the floor mat). Can I just run a wire through that boot and pull it through from the other side?
