not sure what size wire you are tring to run but i pushed a ....maybe a 20gauge (1/8" thick)solid wire (not braided) from the inside of the car like you said underneith the pasange side glove box into the engine bay...i punctured a small hole in the boot before i pushed the wire but I highly doubt you will even need to do that since the boot is fairly thin... i had to take my battery out in order to do that ( also had a friend there to help pull it once it came through the firewall)...hope that helps

all I did was push the wire thru the boot and ran enough to actually run to the battery and it works perfect. I have my wire for my system ran to it and I also have my underbody neon wires running thru the same spot........thats what I did and it was easy enough for me, your decision.

Yeah, Im only wiring a 16g wire through. I dont know where I'm going to put the switch anyway, but I'll figure something out. I have a make-shift switch board up by the radio for my neons, but I dont think I'm going to put it there.

im putting the pod up but wheres the best place to put the line through? i didnt wanna drill my own :S
B :)

Yes the rubber boot around the steering column on the drivers side is a great place, I have about 6 lines going throught there. If you need one on the passengers side for any reason, there is another nice big one just under the batter tray where the main harness comes into the cabin (good for stereo power wire, etc.)

You guys just poke a hole in the steering column boot? Damn, my firewall wouldn't look like swiss cheese then...

I go throught the rubber boot under the fuse box on the drivers side. That will take you into the fender well take out the inner splash guard then run it through the next rubber boot. It will fall in right above the fuse box in the car, it takes a little bit longer but i think it looks cleaner.

I routed mine through the rubber boot on the passenger side by the battery (outside) and below the glove box (inside). Well actually, the previous owner ran an Analog boost guage that way and when I installed my Greddy P/H guage I did the same route since the whole was already fished through with the analog tube.

Hey I got these pioneer amps and for the life of me I can’t find a place in the firewall to run my 4 gauge wire through. I would like to keep it on the passenger side of the wall. Everyone seems to wanna run it though the shifter bushing but that doesn’t seem like a good idea to me. One I don’t wanna have this huge wire run the back of my engine bay. Anyone have photos of where they ran theirs? Thanks guys.

I've got one. There's a little cutting involved, though.

On the passenger side of the cabin, under the dash (you have to pretty much get on your knees outside the car, turn halfway upside down, and stick your head under the glove compartment to see this) there is a rubber grommet/plug in the firewall. You may have to lift the carpet a bit to see it. On the engine side, the plug is under the battery. It's the same one that's used to run a wire to the fuel pump in the fuel pump rewire FAQ.

The rubber is super-thick or it's double layered; whatever it is, it's very tough to cut through. I stuck a screwdriver through it and pulled it out, and there was no hole in the rubber. OMG It's plenty large enough to run a 4 gauge wire, as long as you use something like a box-cutter or maybe even a drill to open up a large enough hole.

Here's a few pics from the fuel pump rewire FAQ to give you an idea where it is:

I'm having a similar problem and would greatly appriciate help, I found the grommit that believe http://vfaq.com/mods/gaugelit.html is talking about, I tried to pop the grommit off with a screwdriver but I couldn't get it, I trying to run a boost gauge, and a couple of other small wires, my 4gauge is ran underneath.

I don't know where or what part of the steering column to make a slit or anything, if anyone can find a picture to help, or can better explan it I would greatly appriciate it.

Thanks, Mike

I have a 1990 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD.

I'm having a problem running a boost line, tachometer wiring and a few other small wires through my firewall and would greatly appriciate help, I found the grommit that believe http://vfaq.com/mods/gaugelit.html is talking about, I tried to pop the grommit off with a screwdriver but I couldn't get it, and from underneath the drivers dash I can't figure out which is which.

I don't know where or what part of the steering column to make a slit or anything, if anyone can find a picture to help, or can better explan it I would greatly appriciate it.

Another question, when I tap into the pressure line I can cut the line anywhere and apply the T-Fitting as long as its tight and not leaking correct?

Thanks, Mike

Here is a pic of the grommet I use. The steering column and column grommet can be seen for reference.

Seeing this picture I should have something around the edge of the hole to protect the lines and wires. I suggest you do the same.

Good information on the tap. Yes, make sure the line is not leaking at the tap or at the gauge itself.

Okay, thats the one I was looking at inside the car, is the the matching one to the grommit they show you at http://vfaq.com/mods/gaugelit.html, like is that where is comes out?

And how exactly did you get the grommit out, screwdriver and pliers?

I was looking at your profile, where did you pick up the different color vacuum lines and stuff, I know about lume and stuff, but I've been looking for different color lines and hosing.

thats the same spot i put mines trough

Yeah but where exactly does it come out in the engine bay, and Auto RS T do you have your 4 gauge through there too?

You should be able to get the grommet out with a screwdriver and a pliers.

I recommend just slitting the grommet for people not using multiple wires.

Just locate the black cable underhood and follow it to the firewall to locate it. A good light always helps.

I have my large power cable and a few other wires running through there. :thumb: It isn't the only way to the engine compartment either...

Wow, thank you so much, I ran my tach wires today, tomorrow I'm running my boost and 4 gauge, I appriciate the help very very much.

Thanks, Mike

ok i am trying to install a after market boost gauge in my 1gb TSi, my problem is i can't find anywhere to run the line through the firewall. I have read up as on as much as i can find, but i still can't figure it out. can anyone help me?? thanks.
