that's what i just said before 6 inches from the part that bolts to the battery is a plastic fuse holder for the fuse which im not hooking up untill i feed it through the firewall, it's a pain in the ass because so far trying to get this damn thing through the cluster behind the battery is a pain in the ass, do i have to take anythng apart from the glove box to get to the wire once i push it through???

I went thru the Shifter Cable Boot - but that was A TOTAL PITA also - There's just no damn easy way to do it - PERIOD! Hopefully you've got some help.

keep the RCA's away from the Power cable you dont want road noise. I ran the RCA's and the remote wire down the drivers side and I ran the power through a hole in the firewall, where the passengers feet would be under the carpet and down the passenger side. never had any problems

i have the RCA's and remote wire running on the opposite side of the inside of the center console to avoid the oh so infamous "buzzing" noise i finally ran the lead through the power steering boot. luckily my arms are small enough to reash past the hoses, and intake. now for the headunit....haha i have the wiring harness all hooked up just gotta find the mounting harness....ill probably stop at pepboys to see what they have, if not then PC richards, or best buy :thumb: :thumb:

For anybody who still cares about this. there is a spot below the fuel lines that you can drill a hold in. Just don't hit those lines. You can put say a half inch hole and seal it up with a boot. I used this to create a 10 bus jump from the engine bay to the interior for use with custom gauges and tuning...now i run wires through the firewall by just turning 2 screws.

where is the best spot to drill into the firewall to run wires. Thanks in advance

Assuming that you have a 2g. Cut an "x" in the boot for the steering column with an X-acto knife. Then push the wires through with a pice of straight metal coat hanger. :thumb:

i have a 97 eclipse gs, and i cant find a hole in the firewall for my powerwire. Does anyone know where i can run it. I did search but what i found didn't make sence. My bettery is on the opposit side of the post i read. Thanks for any help.
Zac

on an NA 2g it is on the right side of the firewall, just look for some stuff going onside the car... there is black goopy crap that fills the hole to creat a watertight seal. u will have to remove it and you will be able to fit it through there... pull off the interior panels (driver side kick panels) and u will be able to pull the wire through then if u dont know where to go from there, post up and i can help... u should be fine, i fit 4 guage through that whole with the rest of my electrical :D

thanks guys, i will look tommorow for the hole(its dark right now). It will be a while before i get to put in a stereo, i had to sell my last one with my last car.
Thanks again.
Zac

I do have one other question before i start to order stuff. The door speakers what, do i have to take off the entire door panel to get to em or does that little plastic piece in front of them come off. I pulled a little but i dont wanna break it. Also i have what appears to be 6.5 inch speakers in the rear so what is in the front?
Zac

The "grill" on the door does NOT come off. Remove the screw behind your handle and the oval piece it holds on, the little screw inside the cavity that you grab to shut your door (pop out the little trim piece), then two screws at the front and two at the rear of the door panel. It will now pop off. Start at the bottom prying it off and work towards the top.

Yes, they are 6 1/2" speakers in the front, 6x9's in the rear.

The guy who had it before me had a whole through the metal on what looks to be the steering column. He drilled a 3/4 inch hole and I have to say, it makes everything easier to install.

Peel back the carpet on the driver's side and you should see it.

ive heard of people just cutting a hole through the steering column boot.

i cant see where the steering column boot comes out in the engin bay. Would you have to go under the car to get at it?

Zac

I have a 97 n/a as well... when i did my installation i ran it through the rubber grommet in the passenger's side footwell.. take a look and you'll see... its hard to miss.. i just took a screwdriver to poke a hole through the grommet and make it bigger then i ran a fishing wire and pulled the power wire right through..
