Firewall holes? [Merged] drill, drilling, pass-thru, wire, gauge, power, passenger

You could make a small hole in the Groment on the steering colum. Personally i would drill a small hole in the firewall and run the line through there, if you do it that way remember to use a gromet to prevent rub through on the hose.

I used the grommit from the speedocable, I ran my tachometer wires, boost line and soon to be 4 gauge, just make sure you still have something around the wiring so if it presses up against the firewall it doesn't get cut.

Heres the thread I started cause I couldn't find anything either, http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=985&page=5. Its a big thread fo all firewall holes, a bunch of smaller ones, you should be able to find it in there. But I think the easiest one to do is the speedocable, I used a screwdriver and just pushed through.

Good luck man.

thanks a lot guys...... the advice all you guys gave me is a lot more helpful than the stuff i found on here looking myself... i'll post what worked best for me as soon as i get in installed

well if your going to be drilling a new hole you can do it any where you want..just make sure your carefully and dont hit any wires/hoses ect...and remember the gromet...

O.K, I'm all excited and am going to install my new boost gauge. Open the hood, and um, O.K. . . . where the hell is this tubing going to go through the fire wall?! WTF

Where DOES this tubing pass through the firewall? (the least destructive path would be best)

Also, where is the BEST place to tap in, to get the most accurate reading?

Thanks for any help!

Chris.

As much as I'd love to reply with the word "search" here's some help.

The tubing should be passed through the firewall where your steering column does. There's a 2 layer thick rubber boot around that. Cut a small slit and then tape your tubing to a wire coat hanger and shove it through there at an upward angle (easier to grab once your under the hood).

Then "T" into the hose that goes from your Fuel pressure solonoid to the intake manifold.

^^^ This is correct. Do not attempt to be a hot shot and go drilling a hole through your firewall. This one jackass did that and drilled a hole straight into his brake booster. Had to replace it. What a tool that guy was.

Although I would tap the line into another place other than the FPR line.

just make sure you tap it in the line going from fps to fpr on fuel rail not before fps or else it will not read vacuum and will give you inaccurate boost readings, i did that on accident but fixed it the next day along with the vacuum line delete. I also ran my boost line and aft. market temp. sensor wiring through the steering column grommet, its the best way. hope this helps

The other way around.

You guy's should REALLY tap the boost guage line into the compressor housing's boost line.
Are you sure you should be a proven member? :p Not being able to read vacuum aside, that would be the longest possible route. If you're concerned about possible leaks interfering with FPR, use the "p" port off the throttle body.

O.K., so to clarify this thing about the location, loud and clear for a noob, tap in where? And yes, I want to read boost AND vacuum!!
THANKS!!!

Chris.

This may help.

Search terms used: "boost", "gauge", "tap".

Additionally, I highly recommend using a brass nipple fitting on the back of the gauge and standard rubber vacuum line rather than the cheap nylon tubing that comes with most boost gauges.

The pics are down in this thread but this is how I ran mine when my gauges were on the pillar.

It is basically run under the fuse block by the driver side hood hinge. Then it goes under the wheel cover and though a gromet and pops out right at the bottom of the a pillar inside the car.

Sorry I don't have any pics of my own, but if you pull off the wheel housing cover it will all makes sense.

Well not really. I'm wrong from time to time. I was told it was better to see the actual turbos boost output vs what's getting to the manifold. I stand corrected. :coy:
No problem. When it comes to the gauge, you want to see what will be entering the motor, it is boost reference for your MBC that you want to tap right off the compressor housing. Let me guess, your MBC is connected to the BOV line? :sneaky: I hope your MBC and boost gauge is not sharing the same source.

No my MBC is hooked up properly to the compressor housing. However, my boost guage is in fact T'd off of the same line as the MBC. I will correct this tonight.

This means what you have been seeing on the boost gauge is inaccurate, it's less than actual boost due to pressure bleed through the wastegate pressure relief hole, how much it has been off depends on the size of bleeder hole on the MBC. Which MBC?
