I was installing a new headgasket, and in the process of putting the timing belt back on, my TB tensioner took a crap on me and allowed everything to move out of place.......now I i dont know where #1 TDC is, the head is on.. Does anyone know how to find #1 at TDC without taking the head back off?

Thanks.

Notice the plate behind the crankshaft sprocket with the notch in it. In the 2 o'clock area of that plate, there's an arrow stamped into the front case that points toward that plate. Line the notch up with that arrow and the #1 cylinder will be at TDC.

Take the plug wire and the spark plug out of the number one cylinder and then stick a long screw driver down into the spark plug hole. It will be sitting on top of the piston now. Turn the motor by hand and watch the screwdriver. (This will be easier with 2 people). The screw driver will go up and down and the motor turns over. Just wait til the screwdriver goes all the way up and stops moving right before it goes down. It will be a slight pause. There ya go. TDC!
