Been a long ride.. But with still a ways to go..
Got everything stripped down. Got a super cheap blaster. If it doesn't work well, no harm done. (Almost sure it won't, being the gravity feed from harbor freight.. But all cheap tools deserve a shot IMO, ya never know...)
I'm probably going to blast it with the brake lines/booster in place, removing and covering any small plastic pieces... Is this okay? Or a no-no? Is there anything in the pic that should not get sandblasted? Obviously I'm going to plug all the holes..
I'm using 70 grit aluminum oxide to blast the bay and everything showing.. It says to run at 90psi, but I'll just play with it to see what gets the best results..
After its all said n done, I'm going to have to go back to the pictures and see what holes I can and can't shave.. Like the bottle holes and stuff, only I don't want to cut off air flow to the intake filter that might be sitting up there...
**I might shave that hole and hack the stationary part of the headlight for airflow** good idea? Or no
Also I know I can shave the original hole the factory harness came through. Wouldn't exactly be tucked if i kept that. Lol.
Any ideas on what else can go? The real pain is remembering what bolt holes can go and stay. I wouldn't think it to be a good idea to shave all of them and make new ones since they're all threaded...
Or I might just leave them, haven't decided yet... I'm painting everything 2k satin black, and I have a can of 2k gloss black I was going to paint certain things like the brake booster and stuff... I have 2k clear also for all the little things I'm painting, like my koni yellows I redid and all that.
I also have to sandblast my transmission. It's rebuilt with double synchros, welded diff and other goodie upgrades.. The guy that had it before me painted it black after they cleaned it all up super nice at the shop.
Can I use this 70grit alumOX? or is that stuff too heavy for the aluminum bell housing?
Anyway. That's where I'm at now.
After that I have to run all my gauges,
and then finish building my motor. Hopefully it will be out of the machine shop by then..
Then run all my DIY fuel lines with the flex sensor, and install my 450 on the sender..
Finish my rack, with the flying miata mod and welded pinion..
Finish repairing my fiberglass hood..
Weld up my custom 3" o2 housing.. And about a million other things.
Like I said
...Long ways to go.
But I just keep thinking how awesome it's gonna be when I'm done..
Thanks to everyone that helped get me here so far.
