Well over this past weekend I bought another eclipse (pics below), but this one is a 2001, buying this car enables me to park my 95 and start my build. I plan on pulling the motor sometime soon so I can tear down the block. Which brings me to my first question. Am I able to pull the motor and trans as one unit from the top or do I have to pull the trans first? I want to go turbo so Im going to lower the compression. I would like to run about 15 psi. I dont plan on using this car as a daily driver more like a weekender. I want a street monster. Most of the people around here with four bangers are just ricers and the rest of them are V8 junkies. They dont know what a four cylinder is capable of. As for what turbo I plan to go with I have no idea. Hopefully you guys will help with this. Same goes with engine management.
Sorry if the pics are to big.

Let me know what you guys think.

not hard.. just make sure that you have your radiator out.. i went to Lowes and bought a 5ft. chain.. i bolted it to the intake side and wrapped around the bottom of the trans and back to the exhaust side.. made sure that it was all stable and unbolted the mounts..

just make sure that you have someone there with you.. one person to crank the engine puller and the other to guide the motor out..

Take to hood off. Thats number one. Take the axles out. Push down on the trans and pull up on the picker. Your done!

also label connectors if your not familiar with em, the cotter pins that hold in the shift linkage and save the back motor mount for last that way the motor is leaning forward makes it easier to get to from up top. besides that is pretty straight forward like he said pushdown on the trans while some one starts lifting the motor and it should come out no problems :thumb:

yes make sure you read up on turboing the 420a. and like said above, you can pull your tranny and engine together, make sure you drain all the fluids, remove the radiator for more room, battery, and another person there does help when guiding it out. Make sure you tilt it the passenger side up.

heres my build list

JE 8.8:1 pistons
Eagle rods
stock crank
Clevite 77 rod & main bearings
OBX oil pan
Crane turbo grind cams
Cam gears (not sure what kind)
Crane valve springs & titanium retainers
Indy stainless steel valves (standard or 1mm, to be determined)
SBI rocker arms
Port & polish head
OBX intake manifold
55mm throttle body
OBX fuel rail
Injecters (not sure what kind but definetly bigger)
ARP head & main studs
MSD coil

No to the fuel rail (unless its bought for bling).

OBX intake I'm ambivalent about. I'm running it now but I just figured that the smooth intake would be a step over stock.

No to the crane springs. They have been known to break. Go with Crower's tough to find a story of breakage.

What are you using for tuning? MSnS is probably the best alternative.

Just a couple of pennies.

I have never pulled the motor and trans together out from the top. I always pull the trans out the bottom and motor out from the top how ever one time I pulled them together out the bottom since I was by myself with no engine hoist.

-If you need step by step how to remove the engine let me know.

yea I guess you all are right about the fuel rail, Ill forget about it. the reason for JE over Wiseco is because I couldnt find anyone else besides cimotorsports.net that sold them and Im not sure weather I wanna deal with them again. im not sure about what turbo and engine managment im gonna go with yet. Ill figure that out in the future. but I know I wanna run around 15 psi. I just wanna focus on the motor first. Im also going to go with crower springs after hearing the crane ones are junk.

Yea you can pull the motor and transmission out through the top at the same time i just took all the motor mounts off the radiator out the exhaust manifold off and just basically lifted the motor and tranny uneven so the motor would come up first and bam it was out.

personally i got all my rebuild parts off of CImotorsports.net .. so i dont know anything about theses companys.. all the sites have phone numbers at the bottom so i would imagine just giving them a quick call to see how they are like...

ive also seen alot of wisecos on ebay too..
